THE VILLAGES
Village Voice August/September 2017
Penn Patient Group
We recently held a
small event to
commemorate Dr
Hilary McDermott at
the Penn Surgery. We
have purchased a
memorial bench that
has been placed in the
Penn Surgery garden
(funds raised from a number of sources) and
officially opened by Dr Alison Coggan with
Councillor Katrina Wood attending and many of
the staff and PPG committee.
The Flu Clinics will start in September, and
we are inviting patients to pre-register.
The Flu Clinic dates are as follows:
• Sat 23rd September - Penn Surgery
• Sat 30th September - Simpson Centre
• Sat 21st October - Simpson Centre
• Sat 7th October - Children's Clinic. Venue tbc.
(Times will be available on the Surgery website
and leaflets/posters that will be distributed
around the village)
Two new doctors have been appointed at the
Simpson Centre. Senior Partner, Dr Graeme
Fletcher said ‘I am delighted we have attracted
experienced general practitioners with valuable
specialist skills which allow us to provide
significant added benefits to our patients’
Dr Ashok Aggarwal. Ashok is a highly
experienced GP and brings a special interest in
child health, in diabetes and is an examiner for
the Royal College of General Practitioners. As
a GP trainer, Ashok will manage two GP
registrars (from August and February) which
brings added benefits to both Practices.
Dr Kate Grint. Kate is also an experienced
GP. She completed her training in Birmingham
www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk
and moved to Buckinghamshire in 2014. She
has a special interest in musculoskeletal
medicine and carries out joint injections. She
also has an interest in women’s health.
Penn School Update
Two years and counting... It is now nearly two
years since Penn School closed and there is still
no real progress to report. It was before Easter
that the DfE decided not approve any of the free
school applications submitted in September
2016 that named the Penn School site.
The announcement of another round of
applications had been expected in May 2017,
but this was postponed by the General Election.
Now the Tories have been re-elected and both
Justine Greening and Lord Nash have been
confirmed in post as Secretary of State and
Schools Minister respectively we can anticipate
that the starting gun for a new wave of free
school applications will be fired at the end of
the summer. If this happens then the outcomes
will not be known until the first quarter of 2018.
It remains to be seen if the DfE will restrict
the future free school programme because of
funding constraints and hold onto the Penn
