ACTIVE FAMILIES AND ACTIVE TEENS<br />
Active Families and Active Teens received 165 referrals and<br />
worked with 140 children of unhealthy weight in the last 12<br />
months.<br />
The Active Families service includes:<br />
- Home visits including biometric assessment and goal<br />
setting in the home<br />
- Weekly activity sessions held at Northcote Baptist<br />
Church gymnasium in Northcote<br />
- Weekly nutrition and parent workshops<br />
- Off-site visits and events: Mud Rush event, JUMP<br />
On average 24 children/parents participated at<br />
weekly activity sessions with a 75% average<br />
attendance rate.<br />
Active Teens worked with 24 teens at<br />
Mahurangi College and a gym in Warkworth.<br />
Many participants have reduced body fat, body<br />
circumference and are now more confident to<br />
participate in sport and physical activity.<br />
COMMUNITY STRENGTH AND BALANCE<br />
Harbour Sport successfully tendered for the ACC Lead Agency Strength and Balance Contract for<br />
Waitemata and Auckland District Health Boards. Work commenced in partnership with the District<br />
Health Board Falls Prevention Steering groups and ACC to develop an implementation plan for the<br />
delivery of this new nationwide initiative. Key objectives are to build capability and capacity in the<br />
community in relation to the provision of Strength and Balance classes for Older Adults. Ultimately the<br />
goal is to decrease falls and fractures in older adults at risk of falling.<br />
