SPORT EXCELLENCE AWARDS<br />
The annual Sport Excellence Awards celebrate<br />
the achievements of North Harbour?s top<br />
athletes, coaches, referees/umpires and<br />
volunteers. The evening was held at the Spencer<br />
on Byron Hotel on November 25th and saw 316<br />
people attend including past and present North<br />
Harbour athletes, Harbour Sport board<br />
members, representatives from Regional<br />
Sporting Organizations, clubs, and sponsors.<br />

inducted into the Hall of Fame at this year?s event<br />
who truly were, ?Legends of Harbour.?<br />
The Sport Excellence Awards consist of three<br />
award categories;<br />
- Sport Acknowledgment Awards<br />
- Sports Excellence Awards<br />
- Legends of Harbour Sports Hall of Fame<br />
The Sport Acknowledgement Awards give each<br />
sporting code in the North Harbour region the<br />
opportunity to acknowledge an individual who<br />
has excelled in their commitment to their sport.<br />
The Sport Excellence Awards categories highlight<br />
the outstanding performances by individual<br />
athletes, teams, coaches, referees/umpires,<br />
volunteers and events in the North Harbour<br />
region. This category recognizes the<br />
achievements from one sporting year.<br />
The Legends of Harbour honours athletes who<br />
have achieved excellence at the highest level and<br />
have also given back to sport in the Harbour<br />
Region. These nominations were put before an<br />

This year the event received 138 nominations<br />
across various sports across the region. The<br />
nominations were judged by an independent<br />
panel of experts representing sport, media and<br />
business, and finalists were chosen in each<br />
category and the category winners were<br />
announced at the Massey University Harbour<br />
Sport Excellence Awards.<br />
For the first time the Hand Up Fund was debuted<br />
at the event and a live auction was run by<br />
Harcourt?s Cooper & Co. Auctioneer which raised<br />
over $4000 for the Harbour Sport run charity.<br />
This is looking to be included annually as part of<br />
the awards evening.<br />
