SUNFLOWER Day, an<br />
annual event aimed at<br />
raising funds for the<br />
fight against cancer, is<br />
today and if you do not<br />
yet have your tope, you still<br />
have some time to buy it from<br />
Round Table No16 in Komani.<br />
<strong>The</strong> theme of this year’s<br />
Sunflower Day campaign is<br />
“Ordinary People who do the<br />
Most Extraordinary Things that<br />
Make a Real Difference”.<br />
“To see our topes being worn<br />
with pride is not just an honour<br />
for us, but a salute to our<br />
survivors, our fighters, our<br />
memories of loved ones ... it is<br />
a show of support, a symbol of<br />
hope,” Sunflower Fund chief<br />
executive Alana James said.<br />
Round Table No16 has<br />
pledged their support to the<br />
project as part of its<br />
commitment to help those in<br />
need.<br />
In a statement this week,<br />
Round Table indicated that it<br />
was “important to Table 16 to<br />
support non-profitable<br />
organisations like the Sunflower<br />
Fund and to encourage our<br />

Funds raised from the<br />
Sunflower Day will offer hope of<br />
life to patients in need of a<br />
life-saving blood stem cell<br />
t ransplants.<br />
More than 160000 topes were<br />
sold last year, resulting in the<br />
recruitment and registration of<br />
another 1488 potential blood<br />
stem cell donors onto the South<br />
African Bone Marrow Registry<br />
(SABMR). <strong>The</strong> aim this year is to<br />
sell 200000.<br />
Topes may be bought from<br />
Gems or Tablers at a cost of R25<br />
