KOMANI is renowned for unearthing
stars on the rugby fields, with Johan
Meyer a prime example.
The former Hangklip and Queen’s
College flanker/eighthman is still
enjoying his rugby with Italian side
Zebre.
Standing at 1.93m and a bulky
104kg, the 24-year-old is in his prime
and destined to be doing what he
does best for many years.
Meyer was always destined for
stardom, having played from 2006 to
2011 for the Border Bulldogs youth
side before being spotted by the
Sharks. He played for the Border U13
side in the 2006 Craven Week
competition and twice represented
the Baby Bulldogs side at the Under
18 Craven Week competitions in 2010
and 2011.
After initially signing for the Sharks
Academy, he played in the U21
competitions and Vodacom Cup
before playing in 25 Currie Cup
matches before being snapped up by
the Italian side in 2015.
Meyer is still contracted to Zebre
and is currently competing in the Po
14. He has also played in the
European Rugby Challenge Cup.
