which will determine the team<br />
that will represent the region in<br />
the Border Premier League<br />
play-offs on <strong>September</strong> 30, took<br />
place last weekend at the<br />
Mlungisi Stadium.<br />
It was, however, not complete<br />
without a protest occurring<br />
during the semi-finals. One<br />
semi-final will be replayed<br />
tomorrow, with the winner facing<br />
Blue Buffs from Dordrecht.<br />
In the first match Progress had<br />
a walkover against Walter Sisulu<br />
University. Blue Buffs defeated<br />
Blue Birds from Whittlesea 25-8.<br />
Ikhala got their campaign under<br />
way with a comfortable 37-8 win<br />
over Elliot. Tarka Stars got in on<br />
the act with a 27-3 drubbing of<br />
Indwe. Ikhala dominated<br />
Progress 34-8 in the first semi<br />
with Blue Buffs too strong for<br />
Tarka, defeating them 28-10.<br />
SEVERAL young people who<br />
originate from Komani had<br />
somewhat of a reunion when<br />
they met at the<br />
interprovincial Under 21<br />
hockey championships in<br />
Potchefstroom recently.<br />

Border Masters Marathon<br />

MAXWELL LEVINE<br />
KOMANI is renowned for unearthing<br />
stars on the rugby fields, with Johan<br />
Meyer a prime example.<br />
<strong>The</strong> former Hangklip and Queen’s<br />
College flanker/eighthman is still<br />
enjoying his rugby with Italian side<br />
Zebre.<br />
Standing at 1.93m and a bulky<br />
104kg, the 24-year-old is in his prime<br />
and destined to be doing what he<br />
does best for many years.<br />
Meyer was always destined for<br />
stardom, having played from 2006 to<br />
2011 for the Border Bulldogs youth<br />
side before being spotted by the<br />
Sharks. He played for the Border U13<br />
side in the 2006 Craven Week<br />
competition and twice represented<br />
the Baby Bulldogs side at the Under<br />
18 Craven Week competitions in 2010<br />
and 2011.<br />
After initially signing for the Sharks<br />
Academy, he played in the U21<br />
competitions and Vodacom Cup<br />
before playing in 25 Currie Cup<br />
matches before being snapped up by<br />
the Italian side in 20<strong>15</strong>.<br />
Meyer is still contracted to Zebre<br />
and is currently competing in the Po<br />
14. He has also played in the<br />
European Rugby Challenge Cup.<br />
