The staff of Endocrine Associates

Officials of the city of Ocoee commissioned 

an alternate storm-debris 

collection contractor who will complete 

two collection passes through 

the city. The debris collection company 

is responsible for picking up 

vegetative debris that has not been 

bagged or mixed with other construction/demolition 

debris. All storm 

debris may not be collected in the 

initial collection pass. Ocoee Public 

Works will collect bagged yard 

waste and construction/demolition 

debris. Debris will be picked up 

seven days a week from 7 a.m.-7 

p.m. and may take another month to 

complete two passes on every city

The St. Johns River Water 

Management District joined city of 

Winter Garden leaders and others 

to celebrate the start of a reclaimed 

water and stormwater project. The 

district provided $750,000 for the 

work, which captures and stores excess 

stormwater, improving aquifer 

recharge and water quality at nearby 

Lake Apopka. 

“The city of Winter Garden is 

excited to support a long-term approach 

to better manage our water 

resources,” said Winter Garden City 

Manager Mike Bollhoefer. “This 

project captures more stormwater 

for the aquifer to benefit, not just 

Winter Garden, but all of Central 

Florida.” 

Once completed, the project is expected 

to capture and add 2 million 

gallons of stormwater per day to the 

city’s reclaimed water infrastructure. 

Located within the Central Florida 

Water Initiative, the project will also 

improve aquifer recharge, the process 

where water soaks from surface 

water to groundwater, not only 

benefiting the city’s water supplies, 

but groundwater for the Central 

Florida region.

The Diamond Resorts Invitational,

Orlando Pride head coach Tim 

Sermanni signs on to extend his contract 

for the soccer team’s third season.

After leading Orlando Pride to 

its first playoff berth in its second season 

in the National Women’s Soccer 

League, the club signed head coach 

compiled by Lauren Salinero 

Tim Sermanni to a contract extension. 

He is the only coach in the 

Prides’ two-year history. After finishing 

the inaugural campaign in ninth 

position, Sermanni transformed the 

Pride during the offseason and propelled 

the side six spots up the table, 

ending the 2017 regular season with 

the third overall seed. 

“It’s exciting,” he said. “I’ve had 

a great two years here. This gives 

me another opportunity to build the 

squad, to build the culture and philosophy 

around the team, and just 

be a part of this great organization. 

Orlando has felt like home to me 

virtually from day one when I came 

here. It’s wonderful. There’s the stadium, 

there’s the people in the club 

and the community as well. It’s a mix 

of all of those things that makes this 

club unique. And having been in 

football for some considerable time, 

you don’t often get that complete 

environment, and that’s what makes 

this club very special to me.”

Orlando City Soccer Club officials 

announced the ‘Fuerza Puerto 

Rico’ Friendly will take place Nov. 4. 

All of the match’s net proceeds will go 

to the United for Puerto Rico initiative 

to raise funds and aid recovery efforts 

for the island following Hurricane 

Maria. The event marks Orlando 

City’s last game of 2017, as well as 

the last game for Isleworth resident 

and Team Captain Kaká, who announced 

that he will not return to the 

team as a player for the 2018 season. 

“Our players and staff are very excited 

to be part of this historic match,” 

said Puerto Rican Soccer Foundation 

President Eric Labrador. “We understand 

that not only could it raise 

money to help people [who] need it 

the most, but using soccer, we can 

unite all Puerto Ricans on and off the 

island.“ 

The opening of Windermere 

High School created a fourth 

men’s golf program in west Orange 

County. In the spirit of competition, 

the inaugural Quad Cup was created 

to pit Dr. Phillips, Olympia, 

West Orange and Windermere 

high schools together in preparation 

for the upcoming championship season. 

This year’s match was held a 

Tranquilo Golf Club at Four Seasons 

Resort Orlando at Walt Disney 

World. 

The DPHS Panthers took home the 

trophy, edging out Olympia by three 

strokes, 157-160. West Orange and 

Olympia each finished with a team 

score of 169. 

Dr. Phillips High School’s 

golf teams made an impact at the 

2017 District Championships. With 

a combined score of 307, the men’s 

team earned the runner-up trophy. 

Freshman Brendan Valdes finished 

at 2-under-par-70 and tied for second 

in the individual standings. Freshman 

Keoni Martin scored 4-over-par-76, 

junior Joey Hodges carded 80,

School’s sixth-grade Reach Out 

Committee organized a Hurricane 

Maria Donation Drive. They collected 

truckloads of supplies for the residents 

of Puerto Rico, who continue 

to struggle in the aftermath of hurricanes 

Irma and Maria. Carloads 

of goods, including bottled water, 

toiletries, canned and dry food, 

baby formula, blankets, pillows, 

first aid kits, paper products and 

over-the-counter medicine, among 

many other items, were delivered 

to various local donation collection 

sites. Members of the Reach 

Out Committee include Antonio

Kids Beating Cancer held its 2017 Hats & 

Heroes Masquerade Ball, celebrating 25 years, 

at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando. The theme for the 

night was “Phantom of the Opera.” It featured music 

from the Broadway show with Terry Barber and his 

orchestra, as well as dancing to the music of 

Michael Andrew & Swingerhead followed by a DJ 

After Party. The night also included live and silent 

auctions, and raffled off a set of diamond stud 

earrings valued at $10,000. The event raised 

money to treat pediatric patients with childhood 

cancers who need bone marrow transplants as part 

of their treatments.
