candle after it is lit. The taper burns down flat while the melted wax collects in a little pool at the top slowly building until its viscosity can no<br />
longer hold it in check, then it drips and runs. She could discern no change from one morning to the next, but she could feel the surface tension<br />
giving way and it was only a matter of time before her face and body would be running downward like that candlewax.<br />
She knew that one day she would look in the mirror at an old woman. It would be as sudden as if it had happened overnight.<br />
