candle after it is lit. The taper burns down flat while the melted wax collects in a little pool at the top slowly building until its viscosity can no
longer hold it in check, then it drips and runs. She could discern no change from one morning to the next, but she could feel the surface tension
giving way and it was only a matter of time before her face and body would be running downward like that candlewax.
She knew that one day she would look in the mirror at an old woman. It would be as sudden as if it had happened overnight.
