The ability and the desire to transmit knowhow, intention, and insight to others around us have<br />
co-evolved with humanity itself. Mixed reality is a huge milestone in that human project of record<br />
keeping, perspective sharing, and empathizing that began with the first cave painting, or even earlier.<br />
Mixed reality experiences (VR, AR, haptics) collapse the barrier of ‘otherness’ between the viewer and<br />
the subject. After all, in a deeply interconnected world, there is no ‘other’.<br />
India is on the cusp of an immersive storytelling revolution, both in terms of Virtual Reality (VR)<br />
where the viewer is totally transported to another place and Augmented Reality (AR) which ports 3D<br />
objects into the real world around the viewer.<br />
In celebrating the future of cinema, <strong>IFFI</strong> commits to facilitating the creation and dissemination of<br />
narrative experiences that will inform our reality and inspire our dreams.<br />

We have been lucky enough to be invited to India twice in order to develop home grown Indian VR<br />
talent. What has been very clear to us from the start is that the combination of astonishingly high<br />
skill levels across disciplines, a rich cultural heritage of storytelling and the sheer passion fuelled<br />
energy of storytellers, artists and developers means that something truly magical is taking place for<br />
creative VR and AR content creation in India.<br />
It is an honour to have been asked to programme the first Mixed Reality Sidebar at <strong>IFFI</strong> and<br />
very exciting that VR and AR are finding a home at this festival. With that in mind we wanted to<br />
bring together a showcase of some of the best examples of immersive storytelling which we have<br />
encountered since the VR renaissance began in 2013. We hope that this wide range of brilliant<br />
examples will entertain you, intrigue you, shock you. But really we hope that it inspires you to strike<br />
while the iron is hot and bring your own stories to life in immersive worlds.<br />
