EXPERIENCED campaigner Fay Bosward captured Gladesville Women’s
Bowling Club’s Consistency title after a 129-121 extra end victory over
Rita Ellis in an absorbing final. Rita led from the outset until the last four
ends when Fay lifted her game and caught upground resulting in the rare
score of 120 all before sealing the win after an extra end.

AED training for Concord-Ryde sailors
SAILING can potentially be a dangerous sport and Concord & Ryde Sailing Club takes
member safety very seriously.
As such the club was
pleased to be a recipient
of a generous donation
by The Michael Hughes
Foundation of an Automatic
External Defibrillator
(AED).
As part of the donation,
the Foundation offered
to provide free training to
club members.
The AED training was
held at the club recently
and there was a great turnout
of over 20 club members
of all ages.
Everyone thought it was
worthwhile and appreciated
the opportunity to
practice the skills learned.
Kevin Mc Sweeney, a
paramedic with NSW Ambulance
and Director of
the Michael Hughes Foundation,
was the presenter.
He provided a very engaging
and informative
talk and all attendees had
the opportunity to practice
CPR on the mannequins
afterwards.
Why is having an AED so
important?
According to St John’s
Ambulance there were
over 30,000 deaths from
Sudden Cardiac Arrest
(SCA) in 2013.
SCA is the leading cause
of death in Australia and
90 people a day are affected
by SCA outside of
hospital.
Without defibrillation:
Survival rate is between
2 per cent and 5 per cent
and for every minute that
passes, the chance of
survival reduces by 10 per
cent.
The average ambulance
response time is 9-14 minutes
in metro areas – up
to 30 minutes in regional
areas.
SCA can strike anyone,
anywhere, anytime with
the only definitive treatment
a defibrillator shock.
Having an AED on hand
can make the difference in
the first few minutes of a
SCA incident.
They are easy to use,
maintain and can save a
life prior to ambulance arrival.
AEDs are important because
they strengthen the
Chain of Survival. They
can restore a normal heart
rhythm in victims of SCA.
Most AEDs are designed
for use by non-medical
personnel such as lay
rescuers who have been
properly trained.
Having more people in
the community who can
respond to a medical
Emergency by providing
defibrillation will greatly
increase sudden cardiac
arrest survival rates
Having a defibrillator on
site will allow club members
to be better prepared
and respond to an emergency
involving sudden
cardiac arrest.

WAYNE Pearce and The Big Hitters will perform
at the Putney Bowlo at 68 Frances Road
