THE ART OF HANNUKKAH
During this time of holidays, Thanksgiving,
Christmas, New Years, Kwanza, etc.,
one holiday that is not referred to often
in the popular media is Hannukkah
which is sometimes spelled Chanuka.
The general pronunciation is /ha’nu ka/.
This is one of the historically oldest
holidays and is celebrated by the Jewish
faith in the time space of late November
to mid December. It is also known as
the Festival of Lights.
lighting of the menorah and the holiday
Hannukkah.
Art that represents Hannukkah generally
includes the menorah or some visual
interpretation of lights. representing
peace in the world. One of the paintings
shown in this article is a modern
interpretation of the menorah in geometric
designs incorporating circles of
light by the artist Adar Darnous. The
other painting is by Yitzchok Moully
titled “National Menorah” showing the
White House as part of the composition
of the painting.
Questions, comments, suggestions -
The holiday is in reference to a battle
that was won by a regimen of Jewish
men known as the Maccabees, who
drove the Greek leader, Antiochus IV
from the temple. the oil that lighted the
large menorah in the temple had been
compromised. The menorah is a vessel
that holds oil to be burned to light the
temple. According to legend, there was
one container of oil that had not been
opened. This held enough oil to light
the menorah for one day. When it was
used it continued to light the menorah
for eight days, which was the time it
takes for a new batch of oil to be processed
to use. This miracle of the oil
lasting for eight days is the initiation
of Hannukkah. Today the menorah is
lighted in Jewish homes and temples
over the eight day period during Hannukkah.Typically
the menorah looks
like a candle holder with 7 arms extending
from a base. Instead of oil, today
the menorah contains candles which
are lighted one each day for eight days
in some customs and in various lighting
configurations in others. The Festival
of Lights is commemorated with the
WARNING: GOVERMENT
THEFT IN PROCESS.
The history of Net Nutrality is at stake.
Non-Technically speaking and given our
urgent nature to unbalance anything that
reeks of equality. The Internet is being
eaten by the one thing it was designed to
combat. Built robust, where every computer
is a potential node, and every node has
full autonomy. That means a node can go
down for maintenance, or get is self-blown
up somehow. Like maybe because some
short fat dictator with a short fuse who has
the nations on alert right now. Or it could
be the North Korean president. This week
we will likely overturn the “net neutrality”
regulations that went into effect during the
Obama administration. Which means it
will be our ongoing fight alone, unless we
can convince congress to protect our internet
once and for all. But how can anyone
expect us to monitor the sneaky stuff that
could really destroy the internet as we know
it. It will be like putting a channel changer
on our browser. From infinity channels to a
few hundred.
Neutrality means all nodes also get equal
access using a Laissez-faire timing structure.
That is unlike human conversation
where everyone talks over each other. Each
CPU cycle internet traffic speaks so to
speak. If it happens at the same time they
both shut the fuck up (stop talking). That
collision is also recorded, then each side of
the conversation waits a random number of
CPU cycles and then resumes. There is no
line or que, they just wait and start talking
again. The collision is reordered because
lots of collisions mean something has gone
wrong. Recording these collisions, waiting,
restarting all take up more CPU cycles. A
server can go down if it runs out of CPU
cycles for thw work that must be done.
Often the result of a hacker virus called a
denial of service attack.
So here comes Trump and his non-scientific
corporate pirates that will be taking away
net neutrality regulations that prevent same
said corporate from priating. If they want
to throttle down CNN they will be able
to. or slow your company web site. When
they make a company pay more to service
you, then its only right that you should be
charged for that increase. That say.
So we could be losing a battle here, but if
we get the issues then we will be ready if
they begin to add vip lanes to our access.
Because you won’t be throttled, only a company
will. But no regulayion means this is
open season on our wallet they may pay
10 million dollors more but so what if the
charge us 15 million more or even more.
But there is also a scientific problem as
well. As these internet packets resume
flowing on to the internet freeway, you will
be waiting for that VIP lane that means you
might be waiting like a whore on an LA off
ramp. And I say that with out any bias or
gender expression whatsoever.
Fighting net nutraity every day.
THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis
Scandals continue to rock the White House
and Congress. One Senator and two congressmen
resign over sex accusations. Three
of the women who have charged Prez Trump
with social assault have renewed their calls
for investigation.
Alabama elects a new Senator this week -
quite a difference. An accused child molester
vs a former federal prosecutor. Will the
voters elect the pedophile or finally say
enough is enough. Trump for his part has
chosen the molester.
Special Counsel Mueller continues to dig
in. Focus seems to be narrowing down to
obstruction of justice by the Prez, the first
son and the son-in-law. What will Congress
do if Mueller files charges?
The military begins accepting transgendered
enlistees in spite of Trump’s disapproval.
This past week CC councilman John Aguilar
and I travelled to Washington DC for
the annual meeting of the Victory Institutes
International Network of LGBTQ elected
officials. Joining us was Lisa Middleton of
PS and Les Zendel of Desert Healthcare
District. Speakers included Senators Tammy
Baldwin and Corey Booker, CA State Senator
Ricardo Lara and many others. It was
a great opportunity to meet with fellow
Electeds and share insights, successes and
setbacks.
never shared on the public tour and to hear
stories from the Congressman about what
really happens back there. Would have made
my hair stand in edge (if I had hair)
CC had its first annual Snow Fest and
Parade. HUGE success! Congrats and thanks
to Karyn Barnes for heading this event up.
The Menorah lighting is scheduled for later
this week.
Next up after that is the Film Festival which
is using the Mary Pickford again this year
and then the Taste of Jalisco in February.
End the holiday season on the last Saturday
of December with an outdoor movie - “How
the Grinch Stole Christmas” on the Festival
Lawn in front of City Hall. 7pm
That’s all for this week
Keep resisting!
Greg Pettis is a 22 year city councilman
in Cathedral City. Greg was the first openly
gay elected city council members In
Riverside County. He has served on the
boards of the National League of Cities
and the League of California Cities and as
President of the Southern CA Association
of Governments.
A real bonus was having Congressman Juan
Vargas of San Diego taking us on a midnight
tour of the Capital. We got to see things
