This year it’s all about unexpected combinations. “People are now
looking to choose styles that contrast with their surroundings –
perhaps melding a baroque or retro style with modern simplicity,
creating different styles that accentuate the character of the
salon,” says Sarah Dade of Salon Ambience. “The return of
boutique-style salons that create smaller, more intimate work
areas allow the hairdresser to create unique layouts that still
retain a sense of balance in their design.”

With clients valuing
authenticity more than ever,
it’s important to stand out.
“Think about how and where
you could use unusual flooring
or wall coverings, like bricks, a
concrete effect or graffiti. This
will create areas of interest
and personality,” says Wendy
Droznika, director at LSE Hair
& Beauty. “Having a blackboard
wall, with chalk available to
use, can be fun, as can having
a feature wall with Polaroid
photos taken there and then.
One-off pieces of furniture can
be sourced from markets and

predicted by Laura Hoy, marketing manager

NATURAL WONDER – Any opportunity to bring
the outside inside is always a good one –
think wood finishes.
MODULAR – Invest in functional, moveable pieces
that can be multi-purpose.
GEOMETRIC PATTERNS – Strong lines,
and patterns will continue to feature this
year, especially for wall finishes.
