Re-homing Pets
Can you offer a home to any of our featured pets?
Scruff - 8 y/o male cat
Scruff arrived at the centre at the beginning
of June as an un-neutered stray with a
Scruff horrible open wound on my neck which
was treated. He’s now neutered and microchipped. He’s
a bit shy and timid so he needs someone who will give him time and
patience. He’s looking for a forever home with no children and no other
pets. He loves being outside so he needs a garden, not near a busy
road, so that he can go out once he’s settled in his new home.
Alfredo - 2 to 3 y/o male cat
Alfredo was a stray who was having to fend for himself
while kind people were feeding him. He’s a shy, timid
boy at the moment as the staff don’t know when he last Alfredo
had human interaction so he will need a quiet home with someone who
will spend a lot of time helping him settle. He needs a home with no
children or dogs but it’s unsure how he would feel about other cats. He
needs a garden not near a busy road, so that he can go out once he’s
confi dent and settled in his new home.
Kyle - male Red Tailed
Black Shark
Kyle came into our care after his previous owner could no
Kyle longer care for him. He will require a large tank as this
species can grow to 6 inches long. He would be best suited to a semi
aggressive community tank as he is an aggressive species of fish. They
cannot live with other red tailed black sharks or other shark like fish.
They have been known to jump so their new home will require a lid.
Demi - female cornsnake
Demi
Demi arrived in our care through no fault of her own and is
now looking for her forever home. Though they don’t play
fetch or come when you call their name, cornsnakes are
great pets for any reptile lover. She would be suited to an experienced
owner who can provide the specialist care she requires.
January and February are the least ‘hands-on’ for time in the hive and
for the beekeeper, and most time is spent on planning for the year
ahead, cleaning, maintaining and replenishing equipment. The honey
bee does not hibernate, the colony is reduced to minimal numbers that
are able to keep the small cluster of bees warm enough to survive
the low temperatures, with the Queen kept at the centre of the cluster
at all times. Weather permitting they will still venture out of the hive
for water and to do other essential ‘business’, called cleansing fl ights.
Snow does not cause issues for the Honeybee colony, as long as the
entrance is not blocked, and it can actually help insulate the hive.
When the bees cannot forage due to weather or the lack of available
pollen and nectar, they rely on their honey stores. The nature of
beekeeping usually means the honey has been taken as a crop by the
bee keeper. So instead they are given substitutes such as Sugar Syrup,
and in the colder months special Sugar Fondant. It can be an anxious
time for the beekeeper, waiting to see if the colony has survived the
dark cold winter months and resisting the temptation to take a peek, as
this can lower the hives sorely maintained temperature, to a dangerous
level. There are ways of checking that the colony is active and has
access to stores or food provided by the beekeeper, such as hefting
the hives to check the weight or by quickly looking under the roof to
see if the fondant most beekeepers use, is accessible and that there
is enough left.
Floss - 2 to 5 y/o female Collie Cross
(Border)
Floss was found as a stray and doesn’t seem
to have much experience of the outside
world, she may have lived rurally on a farm before. We
are looking for an active home that has experience with
Floss
rescue collies. Floss would prefer a quieter home with few
visitors. She needs lots of mental stimulation to stop her from getting
bored so having someone around for most of the day is a must. Floss
can live with children 16 years plus. She does bark at other dogs but
could possibly live with the right dog but no cats. She seems to have
quite a high prey drive so will need a sensible owner to manage this.
Kanook - 2 to 5 y/o male Alaskan Malamute
Kanook is very active and loves to exercise and play
games. He needs a quiet home with people who have
experience of the breed. He can be worried in some
situations so he will need an understanding owner who
will take their time with him. Kanook will need a secure Kanook
garden where he can run safely and stretch his legs. He will need a
home with people over 16. Kanook needs a few meets at the centre to
build a relationship before going to his new home.
