Duchal Nursery
The children enjoyed a wonderful end
of term, they created a beautiful array
of amazing festive crafts that decorated
the nursery during the run up to
Christmas and went on a magical trip to
the Tron Theatre for our festive trip out.
All this together with a fantastic Nativity
performance and a visit from the special
man in red really got us in the festive
mood!
We are excited to get out into our lovely
garden which has just had a big makeover. It is now fully covered with artificial grass
allowing us to be out using it without getting muddy boots! With the arrival of Spring we will
be planting pots with shrubs and learning how to respect and appreciate the wildlife and
plant life around us.
If you are looking for nursery places this August please get in touch to have an informal look
around our nursery. We can arrange a time convenient to you to come and see the purpose
built facilities, meet the teachers and children and get an insight into Duchal life. Please
contact us on 01505 874358. Also visit our website to find out more www.duchal.com and
keep up to date with all the latest news on Facebook.
Abbey Nursery
January is all about new beginnings and we are
looking forward to 2018 and the new ideas we can
bring to the nursery to make it more enjoyable and
stimulating for the children so they can continue to
excel as the year progresses.
Before that though we would like to share news
about our recent Care Inspection and are delighted
to announce a ‘sector leading’ achievement of
Excellent/Grade 6 in both areas being looked at;
Care & Support (of the children) and Staffing. We
are over the moon with the outcome – and feel it
clearly reflects the high standard of care and learning
offered at the nursery and the commitment and
experience provided by our wonderful staff team.
Kilmacolm Primary
Towards the end of November we celebrated Scottish Book Week
with a Harry Potter themed week of activities including; dressing up in
Harry Potter costumes and bringing in props, reading activities, visits
to Kilmacolm Library and we even turned the school into Hogwarts.
The highlight of the week was a visit from Owl Magic who brought
along a selection of different types of owl to show us. The boys and
girls had a wonderful time whilst being encouraged to read and further
our ‘KPS Loves Reading’ message.
Our P6 & P7 pupils participated in
the Gryffe Camera Club competition
again this year and as usual the
quality of the photographs was
outstanding. Committee members
visited us on comic Relief Day to
present the prizes to our winners
who were: 1st Jenni McKeown, 2nd,
Natalina Wong & 3rd Jack Kretowicz. Well done to all of our winners and to those who took
part.
We had a special visit
recently from Toby
Jack the donkey, who
was very patient and
well behaved as our
classes came to see
him and have a stroke
and sometimes a little
hug. The children
were delighted to
welcome Toby Jack to school and he left with a very, very large
amount of carrots and other yummy vegetables to eat.
Finally, our PTF committee have worked very hard over the last
few weeks to organise our annual Spirit of Christmas event. This
year we raised around £2000 for school funds, which is a fantastic
amount. Thanks to all parents, pupils, staff and friends who came
along and made the morning such a success.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all readers a very
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
Just The Ticket
By a sheer coincidence shortly after the pupils of Primary’s 6 and 7 of Kilmacolm Primary
School had completed their project on “The Coming of the Railway to Kilmacolm” for the new
Heritage Gallery shortly to be opened in the Community Centre, a resident handed in to the
Heritage Centre Co. A rail ticket for the last train journey from Kilmacolm to Bridge of Weir
on the 8th January 1983.
The Head Teacher, Mrs. McCredie, is delighted that the ticket will be incorporated and
displayed in the School’s project in the new Gallery.
Areas highlighted as contributing to this exceptional
Grade was the nursery’s commitment to ongoing
training for all staff; the empowerment of staff and
devolved leadership by many; the role of Michelle
the cook in supporting the health and wellbeing of
the children; the teamwork within the playrooms and
across the nursery; the sports coaching and music
programmes and the total respect and consultation
of the children with their interests and talents
identified and nurtured by the staff. What a great
way to end the year!
Other new developments at the nursery include
the grand opening of our Library which has been
totally refitted to enable children and parents to
select books at their leisure. This highlights Abbey’s
commitment to traditional literacy learning as the
foundation for a love of reading and discovery.
The Little Ladybirds
are also enjoying
their new and
quite large indoor
sandpit and this
is encouraging
their social skills
in playing and
exploring together
with their friends.
Closing the year
the nursery also
made sure it was
doing what it could
for others, and sent
more than 40 bag
packs to the Sinilian Second Primary school in the
Philippines who the children have been talking to
over the past few months and nearer to home the
children and parents donated lots of toys and food
to the local Foodbank.
