All welcome. the advertizer kilbarchan - howwood - lochwinnoch - elderslie Let's hear from our Councillors Andy Doig reports: As the frenetic activity of the festive period is over we now enter the New Year with an eye to the memories, for most a mixture of both good and bad, that we have left behind in 2017, and I wish all my constituents and their families a prosperous New Year for 2018. PARKING: Renfrewshire Council introduced car parking charges in Johnstone town centre at their meeting in early November and this is due to come in to force in 2019. Now it may seem superfi cially that this is not a decision that will affect residents in Kilbarchan, Lochwinnoch, and Howwood, but I am very concerned about the law of unintended consequences and how this anti business decision could lead to a lack of banking services for village residents. I will therefore work with other opposition Councillors to reverse this decision to impose car parking charges in Johnstone at the earliest opportunity. PLANNING: Like many constituents I was overjoyed to hear that the group of fi ve planning appeals that were in the hands of the Scottish reporter, including the controversial planning appeal for the Branscroft site, have all been rejected. This will be good news for village communities across Renfrewshire and in particular I would like to personally commend Mr Ken Ives and Mr Bruce McFee for their stout defence of the integrity of Kilbarchan at the Appeal Hearings earlier this year. One of my New Year resolutions is to pray that the Scottish reporters display the same common sense and reject the appeal currently out for the Johnshill site in Lochwinnoch. Derek Bibby reports: A Happy New Year to everyone in Kilbarchan, Howwood and Lochwinnoch. PLANNING: Excellent news to start the year comes with the decision to reject the appeal on the planning application at Branscroft Kilbarchan. It has taken a long time, but the right decision has been made, and the views of local people who were against this development have been respected. It is also reassuring that the adjacent application in Brookfi eld at Sandholes Road has similarly been rejected. PARKING: A public meeting held before Christmas to discuss the Council’s decision to introduce parking charges in Johnstone, was attended by a hundred people who were unanimously opposed to the charges. The meeting was organised by Johnstone Community Council and the Business Consortium. I have asked my colleagues on the relevant council board to raise the issue of the availability of taxis in Johnstone and the villages, that are able to accommodate wheelchairs and their users, particularly at the weekends. I know that this is a problem for some disabled residents and their carers. The Council recently agreed to ensure that there was the necessary transport to ensure workers in pubs, clubs and restaurants who work late to the early hours were able to get home safely to our villages. This was a really positive move. I will seek similar action in regard to taxi availability for disabled residents. CITY OF CULTURE 2021: Finally thanks to all those who contributed to Paisleys bid to become UK City of Culture 2021. Although the town missed out on the crown the raising of awareness in regard to Renfrewshire’s Cultural heritage has been invaluable. The traditional events and festivals in our villages continue to make a signifi cant contribution, thanks to the energy, enthusiasm and creativity of volunteers and community activists, who will ensure that our culture and heritage will be protected and grow. kilbarchan - howwood - lochwinnoch - elderslie Scottish Country Dance Classes Tuesdays in the McKillop Hall, Lochwinnoch at 7.30pm. Take care and thanks again, Vanda. kilbarchan - howwood - lochwinnoch - elderslie The Second Lochwinnoch Golf Club Tea Dance The second free Tea Dance in support of Lochwinnoch Dementia Friendly Village was held on Friday 1st December. A great afternoon of dancing and singing was had by all. Music Box provided fantastic music for the dancers who were joined by the eight captains from Lochwinnoch Primary School. The Small Fezzes had the crowd singing well! Santa made a visit to the dance too! A huge thanks to Mr Cochrane who sponsored the dance, Janice and the team at the golf club, Ann Arnold’s Contact the Elderly team for providing transport. Also to councillors Andy Doig and Derek Bibby for supporting and joining in the fun! There will be a third dance on Friday the 2nd of March 2018 more information nears the time! Kilbarchan Fairtrade Group ran a most successful stall in Kilbarchan Parish Church at the end of November. For the fi rst time over £400 worth of goods were sold: this exceeds any other similar fair trade sale in the village. The stall was provided by Paisley based Rainbow Turtle, opposite the Town Hall, which sells fairly traded goods all year round. Thanks to all who gave their support. Selling in the photo are Moira Stark and Moira Smith. The next meeting of Kilbarchan Fairtrade Group takes place in the Ladies Room at the Steeple at 7.30pm on Tuesday 9th January 2018. The group would be very happy if folk who believe that producers abroad should have a fair price for their goods and labour would come along and share their enthusiasm and skills with the existing members. The meetings are fairly informal and do not normally last too long! kilbarchan - howwood - lochwinnoch - elderslie Kilbarchan NWR During the month of January, the group has 2 meetings. The fi rst is a planning meeting for the session January-June and we shall also be reviewing the book “Miss Garnet’s Angel” by Sally Vickers. Our second is in Houston at the invitation of the Houston Group to hear a talk by a lady who was an air stewardess and is now a driving instructor, so some amusing anecdotes!
