Celebrations at fast-growing Hornby travel outlet<br />
House of Travel Hornby is<br />
celebrating its second birthday<br />
this month, and since its launch<br />
in <strong>20</strong>14, not only has the business<br />
grown, with staff numbers increasing from<br />
three to five, it has also collected several<br />
awards.<br />
As owner/operator Paula Waldeck<br />
explains, in its first year of operation,<br />
House of Travel Hornby was named<br />
‘Best Performing Small Outlet’ for <strong>20</strong>15.<br />
Plus, at the same awards two of the travel<br />
consultants received sales awards.<br />
And this year, Paula, who has been in<br />
the travel industry since 1996, has been<br />
nominated as one of three nationwide<br />
finalists at the TAANZ (Travel Agent<br />
Association of New Zealand) Awards in<br />
the category of ‘Retail Manager of the<br />
Year’. The winner will be announced later<br />
this month.<br />
Paula and her “awesome team” of travel<br />
specialists – Kirsty Stewart, Sarah Davy<br />
and Christine Gilliver, and travel and sales<br />
support team member Shaunice Ross, are<br />
“passionate about all things travel.”<br />
The travel specialists all have extensive<br />
experience in the travel industry and have<br />
travelled widely themselves so they can<br />
pass on their first-hand experience. They<br />
each have special areas of the world<br />
they particularly like, and enjoy nothing<br />
more than helping their clients plan and<br />
book trips to many of these exciting and<br />
fascinating destinations.<br />
As Paula notes, they enjoy working<br />
with customers to create the best holiday<br />
possible.“We encourage clients to bring<br />
in their ideas, whether from magazines,<br />
friends or the internet to a consultant and<br />
from there we develop and enhance ideas<br />
to book the best- possible trip.”<br />
Helping people make the most of their<br />
overseas trips, House of Travel Hornby<br />
passes on their top tips and ensures they<br />
get the best value airfare to suit their needs,<br />
so travellers have extra funds to spend on<br />
activities, shopping, or whatever they wish<br />
to do.<br />
One of the most popular options at<br />
present, Paula says, is cruising – either<br />
river or ocean cruising. With many<br />
wonderful opportunities available to see<br />
the world this way, increasing numbers of<br />
clients are booking cruises, she says.<br />

I have the dream job! Leading a fabulous<br />
team of travel experts who love their<br />
customers and help create dreams into<br />
reality. My last holiday was South Africa<br />
and my next one is Fiji, both with my<br />
family. Top of my list for next year is a<br />
Caribbean cruise and New York.<br />
I have a passion for travel! I absolutely<br />
love being in this job. Helping people<br />
create their own adventures and getting<br />
excited with them is my favourite part!<br />
My last holiday was a six-week holiday<br />
through the USA, San Fran, Las Vegas,<br />
New York Mexico and everything inbetween!<br />
Top of my list for next year is<br />
discovering a new beach in Asia.<br />
Travel and exploring the globe is number<br />
one on my life’s list! I love wildlife and<br />
water so typically hot and adventurous<br />
destinations get my tick. My last holiday<br />
was Europe – a Greek Island Cruise,<br />
Istanbul and Jerusalem. Top of my list for<br />
next year – backpacking either Romania<br />
or India.<br />
The best part of this job is helping people<br />
arrange memorable holiday experiences<br />
– it’s such a privilege be involved. My last<br />
holiday was Melbourne followed by Las<br />
Vegas and then Rarotonga. Top of my list<br />
for next year is Cuba. Followed closely by<br />
Hawaii and LA.<br />
I love being surrounded by all things<br />
travel every day. Helping the girls<br />
plan their clients’ dream holiday is so<br />
rewarding, and it’s great to see everyone<br />
having so much fun in the process. My last<br />
holiday was Rarotonga and its tropical<br />
beaches. Top of my list for next year is Fiji<br />
and Bali.<br />
