6 Tuesday September 27 2016 ACHIEVERS SOUTHERN VIEW AWARDED: ATT chairman Peter Fitzsimmons presented Phil Harrison of Hoon Hay with a plumbing and gasfitting award. SUCCESS: Plumbing World’s southern regional manager Penny Ratcliff shaking the hand of plumbing award winner Nimo Vili. Success for apprentices PAINTER RECOGNISED: Natalie Thornton of Linwood was awarded the apprentice and student award at the recently held Hay National Association of Woman in Construction awards evening. Ms Thornton is an apprentice painter for City Decorators, once she has completed her apprenticeship she hopes to, one day, lead her own painting crew. THREE APPRENTICES in the south side of the city have received awards form the Apprenticeship Training Trust. Recently ATT held their graduation and awards evening to recognised apprentices around Canterbury for their achievements in their various industries. Phil Harrison of Hoon Hay and Nimo Vili of Halswell both studied plumbing and gasfitting and received the Plumbing World award for excellence in plumbing and gasfitting. Woolston resident Sam Tolra completed his apprenticeship in metal roof and wall cladding and received the award for Woolware most inspiring roofing apprentice. ATT’s chief executive Gray Paterson said completing an internship is an achievement. “We are thrilled to see these young people achieve their goals and complete their apprenticeships . . . we are very proud of ATT’s 2016 graduates and prize winners,” Mr Paterson said. WINNER: Peter Fitzsimmons with Woolston’s Sam Tolra, who received the award for the most inspiring roofing apprentice. Clare reilly 40 years of exhibiting. Born and educated in Wellington, she has lived and worked in Christchurch since 1976 and is now a full-time artist. Her paintings celebrate survival and resilience within the natural environment. Over time she has developed a painting style that has an intensity and luminosity of colour that embraces a dream-like atmosphere. She has a close affinity with birds in the landscape, with the bird motif signifying a sense of joy in flight, and hope and renewal. “I have been fortunate to follow my love of painting and exhibiting for the last 40 years. Fortunate to still be excited to enter my studio each morning, and to be able to reach the people who enjoy my work. The support from the viewing public means so much.
