2 12 [Edition datE] Your guide to Show Homes & New Sections in the Selwyn District Montrose takes gold A Lincoln show home struck gold with their Light Up My Life entry at the recent Canterbury Registered Master Builders’ House of the Year awards, taking a Gold Award in the GIB Show Home category. “It’s great to receive industry recognition for constructing a quality product and to have the team’s work in building the house acknowledged,” says Steve Reeves, owner of Montrose Design and Build who added that the Award evening was also a great opportunity to celebrate with the team. Montrose Design and Build is a local Canterbury company that began in May 2014. Steve had returned from overseas just prior to the earthquakes. The born and bred Cantabrian, realised that the greatest need was for people who could work on repairing and rebuilding the city. This led him to the decision to start his own building company, drawing on his carpentry training and years of experience in the building trade in New Zealand, the United States and England. With Montrose, Steve wanted to produce quality homes that were enjoyable to live in and their show home at Lincoln certainly achieves this. The home has all the elements of contemporary living while also offering areas for intimacy and space for family with a light, open and spacious feel. There has been meticulous attention to detail in its workmanship with higher quality products used such as the real Alexandra schist cladding around the chimney both inside and out, the Western red cedar cladding and cathedral ceilings in the kitchen, dining and lounge area. The front door is solid cedar, complimented with cedar facia and enhanced by the solid oak wood flooring in the entryway, kitchen and dining areas. Built-in shelving is a feature in both the living room and lounge while the highly lacquered joinery in the kitchen has been imported from Germany. The show home has been cleverly designed using exposed beams and higher ceilings. There are floor to ceiling windows and sliders in the living areas as well as the north facing bedrooms. The main bedroom’s ensuite and walk-in-robe have generous space, ample storage and quality joinery. The main bathroom and laundry are also spacious with tiled floors while there are large cupboards in the hall. Heat pumps power the underfloor heating which is part of the fully insulated foundation; piping warm water through the floor and heating hot water used in the home. Fresh air is provided through a moisture master system while the house is positioned to maximum the sun. The Montrose show home is appealing. It has good use of angles that offer sheltered alfresco living, making it an ideal home for a variety of people seeking to build. The show home is located at 81 Edward Street, Lincoln and is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 12 noon until 4pm or at other times by appointment. Matt and Kim love spending time outdoors.
