Legal Assistance Online
A new concept in legal services has
been created by John Shingleton, with the
establishment of Online Lawyers in June 2016.
“After years of working in a legal system
that seemed clumsy and time-consuming, I
came up with the idea of a digitally based law
practice. My aim was to offer an efficient and
convenient, customer focussed service with a
fast turnaround time,” explains John.
John sought IT advice, on how a secure,
encrypted, cloud-based interactive legal service
could be an on-line reality then six months
of planning ensued before the business was
launched.
“As soon as I decided what to do, it was just
a matter of timing and getting the systems in
place,” adds John.
The level of flexibility the business offers has
proven popular with clients leading to Sharon
Scott recently joining John to look after the
conveyancing side of the business.
Sharon is experienced in in all aspects of
conveyancing work, a great asset for clients
purchasing property in what is now a complex
field, with the effects of the earthquakes, insurer
requirements and new finance laws all to be
taken into consideration. Sharon knows the
process and can guide clients through these
potential hurdles.
“I like to get to know my clients so I can offer
them the best advice and service, completing
the transaction either remotely or visiting clients
at a time that suits them,” says Sharon.
Together, John and Sharon share over
45 years’ experience in the legal field. They
have expertise in all aspects of conveyancing
including buying and selling sections, residential
homes, commercial properties and farms. John
also specialises in setting up and overseeing
trusts, employment law, health and safety law
and other areas of business law.
Online Lawyers do not have centralised
offices, instead working locally within
their community, utilising the Internet and
videoconferencing to explain and share
information as well as witness and record
legal document signing. This reduces business
expense and increases their availability to
clients.
