Running time 1hr 40min. 8 Hardy St Eastside Gallery Mulitcultural Exhibition 2018 Mon-Fri 11-4pm, Saturday noon-3pm Each year the Linwood Community Arts Centre’s Eastside Gallery hosts the annual Multicultural art exhibition which runs during the time of the Multicultural Festival, on February 10. The exhibition and the festival aim to aid cultural understanding whilst celebrating diversity. The theme for the year’s PEGASUS POST exhibition is ‘the things that connect us.’ Artists were asked to create artworks that illustrated this theme in any medium. The show has over 40 artists from all over Christchurch. Here’s what the year has in store for some of the new leaders Marian College head girl Izzy Bloxham This year Izzy hopes to help all students become the best people they can be. She hope the student leaders can inspire all Marian College students to give things a go and to give as much back as they can to their communities. Izzy’s biggest passion is music, writing and performing. She is also a passionate debater and loves to meet new people. At school, Izzy is involved with jazz band, rock band, debating and theatre sports, the Special Catholic Character Committee and Young Vinnies. Her favourite academic subjects are music and history. Marian College deputy head girl senior school Rachael Nilsson Rachael hopes as a student leader that she can give back to the Marian College family. She would also love to help other students to grow their leadership skills and take advantage of every opportunity. Rachael is involved with sport at Marian, first XI hockey and volleyball. Subjects she enjoys include chemistry, biology and English. Rachael is passionate about pursuing her education and doing something she loves in the future. Mairehau High School head boy Niko Smith Niko has excelled at Mairehau academically. He is a young man who encompasses all that we expect from a Mairehau student – articulate, responsible, empathetic and a respected member of the school. Niko is very aware of the importance of the student voice and can be relied upon in this position to listen and action the needs of Mairehau’s students. One of Niko’s many interests at school and in the community is audio engineering. His talent in this area supports the school with all formal and informal functions. Mairehau High School head girl Phoebe Pratt Phoebe is a young, vibrant girl who has the ability to encourage students to push themselves out of their comfort zones. She represented students as the board of trustees representative last year. Phoebe is a team player and an all-rounder showing responsibility, empathy and inclusion in all she does. Phoebe is passionate about fitness and well-being and is looking at promoting this within the school across all year levels.
