Choosing some of the people whose deserved destination in the Hereafter is Hell, He will magnanimously forgive them and bless them with Paradise....

Thishadîth-i-sherîfshowsthat<strong>the</strong>blessedmo<strong>the</strong>r<strong>and</strong>fa<strong>the</strong>rof<br />
<strong>the</strong> Messenger of Allah ‘sall-Allâhu ’alaihi wa sallam’ were<br />
Believers. For, it is forbidden to visit disbelievers’ graves.<br />
Permissiontovisithisparents’gravesisaclearindicationof<strong>the</strong><br />
factthat<strong>the</strong>ywereBelievers.Asforhisnotbeinggivenpermission<br />
toaskforforgivenessforhisparents;ithaditsreasons:Jenâb-i-<br />
Haqq, for <strong>the</strong> sake <strong>and</strong> honour of His Habîb (Darling), had<br />
plannedagreaterblessingforhisblessedparentstoattain.When<br />
<strong>the</strong>timeHehadwilled<strong>and</strong>decreedcame,Hewouldbring<strong>the</strong>m<br />
backtolife<strong>and</strong><strong>the</strong>rebyshow<strong>the</strong>m<strong>the</strong>factthat<strong>the</strong>irsonwas<strong>the</strong><br />
highest of Prophets, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>reby <strong>the</strong>y would have îmân in him,<br />
attain <strong>the</strong> honour of joining his Ummat (Muslims) <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> high<br />
gradeofbeingSahâbîs.<br />
Itisstatedasfollowsin<strong>the</strong>twohundred<strong>and</strong>twenty-seventh<br />
pageof<strong>the</strong>bookentitledMir’ât-ul-kâinât <strong>and</strong>whichwaswritten<br />
by Nishânjizâda Muhammad bin Ahmad Efendi ‘rahmatullâhi<br />
’alaih’,(d.1031[1622A.D.]):<br />
Islamic scholars are not unanimous with respect to <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
statements concerning whe<strong>the</strong>r or not <strong>the</strong> blessed parents of<br />
Rasûlullah ‘sall-Allâhu ’alaihi wa sallam’ had îmân (in his<br />
prophethood).Fivedifferentnarrationsonthismatterexistin<strong>the</strong><br />
bookentitledMesâlik-ul-hunafâ <strong>and</strong>writtenby’Abd-ur-Rahmân<br />
binAbûBakrSuyûtî,(d.911[1505A.D.],)<strong>and</strong>alsoinmanyofhis<br />
o<strong>the</strong>rvaluablebooks:<br />
1– Both of <strong>the</strong>m passed away in <strong>the</strong> time of pre-Islamic<br />
paganism, before Rasûlullah’s call to Islam commenced; that is,<br />
before Bi’<strong>the</strong>t (or Bi’that). According to all <strong>the</strong> scholars in <strong>the</strong><br />
Shâfi’îMadhhab<strong>and</strong>mostof<strong>the</strong>scholarsin<strong>the</strong>HanafîMadhhab,<br />
ifapersonhasnotheardof<strong>the</strong>religionofaProphet,itisnotwâjib<br />
forhimtohaveîmân(belief)inthatreligion.For,itisnotwâjibto<br />
findaProphet’sreligionbywayofcogitation<strong>and</strong>reasoningbefore<br />
hearingofit.Afterhearingofit,itbecomeswâjibtocogitate<strong>and</strong><br />
infer<strong>the</strong>existenceofAllâhuta’âlâ<strong>and</strong>tohaveîmâninit.By<strong>the</strong><br />
eraofpre-Islamicpaganism,(whichiscalleddawr-i-jâhiliyya,)<strong>the</strong><br />
ancient Prophets had been forgotten. For, throughout centuries,<br />
unbelievers <strong>and</strong> cruel tyrants had seized power, exterminated<br />
religions,oppressed<strong>and</strong>persecutedmenofreligion,<strong>and</strong><strong>the</strong>reby<br />
diminished<strong>the</strong>numberofBelieverstoafewescapees,whichhad<br />
reachedanadirwithnoonewithahaziestnotionin<strong>the</strong>nameof<br />
