Allâhu ta’âlâ pities all the people on the earth, and sends them the useful things He creates. He has taught the entire humanity how they should act and behave so that they may lead a life of comfort and peace in the world and in the Hereafter. Choosing some of the people whose deserved destination in the Hereafter is Hell, He will magnanimously forgive them and bless them with Paradise....

If­<strong>the</strong>re­is­îmân­in­<strong>the</strong>­heart­of­a­person­who­committed­grave<br />

sins,­ he­ will­ attain­ shafâ’at­ (intercession)­ after­ some­ torment.<br />

Allâhu­ ta’âlâ­ will­ be­ kind­ to­ <strong>the</strong>m­ <strong>and</strong>­ take­ <strong>the</strong>m­ out­ of­ Hell<br />

thous<strong>and</strong>s­of­years­later.­However,­skins­of­people­in­Hell­will­be<br />

created­ again­ after­ being­ burned.­ Hasan­ Basrî­ ‘rahmatullâhu<br />

’alaih’,­(d.­110­[728­A.D.],)­would­say,­“I­wish­I­were­one­of­those<br />

people.”­ <strong>The</strong>re­ is­ no­ doubt­ as­ to­ <strong>the</strong>­ fact­ that­ Hasan­ Basrî<br />

‘rahmatullâhi­’alaih’­was­a­person­who­knew­well­about­<strong>the</strong>­events<br />

in­<strong>the</strong>­<strong>Hereafter</strong>.­On­<strong>the</strong>­day­of­Judgment,­a­Muslim­is­brought.­He<br />

has­no­charity­to­weigh­heavier­on­<strong>the</strong>­scales.­Allâhu­ta’âlâ,­for­<strong>the</strong><br />

sake­of­his­îmân­<strong>and</strong>­out­of­His­compassion­for­<strong>the</strong>­Believer,­tells<br />

him:­“Go to o<strong>the</strong>r people <strong>and</strong> look for a person who will give you<br />

<strong>the</strong> thawâb (rewards) that he deserved on account of <strong>the</strong> good<br />

deeds <strong>and</strong> acts of charity (that­he­performed­in­<strong>the</strong>­world). You<br />

will enter Paradise owing to his kindness!”­That­person­goes­<strong>and</strong><br />

looks­for­someone­to­help­him­to­attain­his­wish.­Everyone­he­asks<br />

gives­ <strong>the</strong>­ same­ answer:­ “I­ fear­ that­ my­ own­ charity­ may­ weigh<br />

lighter­on­<strong>the</strong>­scales.­I­am­more­needy­than­you­are.”­He­is­very<br />

sad­now.­Someone­comes­near­him­<strong>and</strong>­asks­him­what­he­wants.­“I<br />

need­ charity­ [thawâb].­ I­ have­ asked­ almost­ a­ thous<strong>and</strong>­ people.<br />

Each­ person­ I­ ask­ finds­ a­ pretext­ <strong>and</strong>­ declines,”­ he­ says.­ That<br />

person­says­unto­him:­“I­entered­<strong>the</strong>­presence­of­Allâhu­ta’âlâ.­I<br />

found­nothing­in­my­page,­except­for­a­single­thawâb.­It­will­not<br />

suffice­ to­ save­ me­ anyway.­ Let­ me­ donate­ it­ to­ you.­ Take­ it!”<br />

Relieved­<strong>and</strong>­happy,­<strong>the</strong>­needy­person­leaves.­Allâhu­ta’âlâ­knows<br />

what­has­happened,­but­He­asks:­“What­are­you­back­with?”­That<br />

person­tells­about­his­adventures.­Allâhu­ta’âlâ­bids­<strong>the</strong>­donator<br />

also­ to­ His­ presence­ <strong>and</strong>­ says­ unto­ <strong>the</strong>m:­ “My Kindness to<br />

Believers is more than your kindness. Hold your Muslim bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />

by <strong>the</strong> h<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong> you two go to Paradise.”<br />

If­both­scales­of­<strong>the</strong>­balance­stay­on­<strong>the</strong>­same­level­<strong>and</strong>­<strong>the</strong>­scale<br />

carrying­ <strong>the</strong>­ thawâb­ does­ not­ weigh­ heavier,­ Allâhu­ ta’âlâ­ says:<br />

“This person is nei<strong>the</strong>r for Paradise nor for Hell.”­<strong>The</strong>reupon­an<br />

angel­comes­forth­with­a­page­<strong>and</strong>­places­it­on­<strong>the</strong>­scale­of­seyyiât<br />

[sins].­A­sign­on­it­says,­‘Ugh’.­So­that­scale­weighs­heavier­than<br />

that­ of­ good­ deeds.­ For,­ it­ is­ a­ word­ of­ protest,­ “Ugh,”­ uttered<br />

towards­parents.­It­incurs­<strong>the</strong>­comm<strong>and</strong>ment­that­that­person­be<br />

hurled­into­Hell.­That­person­looks­right­<strong>and</strong>­left.­He­dem<strong>and</strong>s­that<br />

he­be­called­by­Allâhu­ta’âlâ.­Allâhu­ta’âlâ­calls­him,­saying:­“O,<br />

you, disobedient slave! Why do you ask Me to call you?”­ He<br />

answers:­“Yâ­Rabbî!­I­underst<strong>and</strong>­that­I­am­going­to­Hell­because<br />
