LOVE IN THE TIME OF TRUMP<br />
There is never enough LOVE weather it<br />
is for LOVE for your fellow persons, or<br />
LOVE for an exclusive person. In a letter<br />
from Albert E<strong>in</strong>ste<strong>in</strong> to his daughter<br />
he discussed the powerful force that<br />
science has not been able to expla<strong>in</strong>, <strong>in</strong><br />
the follow<strong>in</strong>g excerpt from a letter to his<br />
daughter. <strong>This</strong> was found among 1,400<br />
letters donated to the Hebrew University<br />
with the request not to publish until two<br />
decades after his death. It reads as follows:....<br />
“When I proposed the theory of relativity,<br />
very few understood me, and what I<br />
will reveal now to transmit to mank<strong>in</strong>d<br />
will also collide with the misunderstand<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and prejudice <strong>in</strong> the world.<br />
I ask you to guard the letters as long as<br />
necessary, years, decades, until society is<br />

There is an extremely powerful force that.<br />

of other forces of the universe that<br />
have turned aga<strong>in</strong>st us, it is urgent that<br />
we nourish ourselves with anther k<strong>in</strong>d of<br />
energy...<br />
If we want our species to survive, if we<br />
are to f<strong>in</strong>d mean<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> life, if e want to<br />
save the world and every sentient be<strong>in</strong>g<br />
that <strong>in</strong>habits it, LOVE is the only answer.<br />
Perhaps we are not ready to make a bomb<br />
of LOVE, a device powerful enough<br />
to entirely destroy hate, selfishness and<br />
greed that devastates the planet.<br />
....However, each <strong>in</strong>dividual carries<br />
with<strong>in</strong>g them a small but powerful generator<br />
of LOVE whose energy is wait<strong>in</strong>g<br />
to be released. When we learn to give<br />
and receive this universal energy, dear<br />

conquers all, is able to transcend everyth<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and anyth<strong>in</strong>g, because LOVE is<br />

In art LOVE was most dramatically<br />
expressed, as the word, <strong>in</strong> the famous<br />
pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g by Robert Indiana <strong>in</strong> the 1960’s<br />
with the simple graphic juxtaposition of<br />
the 4 letters: LOVE. In LGBT art one<br />
expressive draw<strong>in</strong>g by Douglas Simonson<br />
demonstrates LOVE and affection of two<br />
men. Artist may have come to closest to<br />
giv<strong>in</strong>g visibility to LOVE <strong>in</strong> graphic form<br />
as E<strong>in</strong>ste<strong>in</strong> says we need to do by substitut<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the energy of LOVE for E=mc2.<br />
The hate, greed, and selfishness that has<br />
been expounded upon by our current<br />
political scene does need that “bomb” of<br />
LOVE to destroy that which prevents us<br />

Fabeyonce “ Did you turn gay”<br />
I get the same question constantly, “when<br />
did you turn gay?” Well I’ve always been gay,<br />
you just don’t wake up one morn<strong>in</strong>g and say<br />
“Hey I’m <strong>Gay</strong>.” But maybe we should.<br />
S<strong>in</strong>ce I was young, I always had a strut <strong>in</strong> my<br />
walk that was very noticeable. I was always<br />
called out for it and on top of that, I was very<br />
flamboyant. But I did go through the stages<br />
of hav<strong>in</strong>g quite a few girl friends but that<br />
never lasted (not really sure why) lol.<br />
I remember when dat<strong>in</strong>g girls I wanted it to<br />
be over so fast because I felt awkward with<br />
them. And I know I did it so people would<br />
th<strong>in</strong>k I’m normal, but when it came time to<br />
eat the taco I said “Hell No Gotta Go”.<br />
So I knew someth<strong>in</strong>g was up. Grow<strong>in</strong>g up<br />
around cholos and Lat<strong>in</strong> cowboys (chal<strong>in</strong>os)<br />
I remember they would always be outside<br />
dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g, a bit drunk and hav<strong>in</strong>g a good<br />
time. I’d catch myself right by the wall where<br />
they would pee just to get a glimpse of that<br />
corn on the cob (w<strong>in</strong>k w<strong>in</strong>k.) I did a few<br />
times, but seriously I was attracted to these<br />
men and it didn’t feel wrong. It actually felt<br />
right if that makes sense.<br />
The day I decided to come out, I was argu<strong>in</strong>g<br />
with my mom and she of course was upset<br />
with me about someth<strong>in</strong>g and she called me<br />
out, and read me to filth, so I had no option<br />
other than com<strong>in</strong>g out. She was so upset<br />
and I stomped off. Hours later she said “I<br />
knew you were, I’d rather have you this way<br />
than any other way” So we slowly got off the<br />
subject. Still, I was so scared to be honest<br />
with everyone I knew <strong>in</strong> middle school. I was<br />
picked on, called names, bullied and pushed<br />
around. But I had to stand up for myself like<br />
my mom said “If you don’t fight them, I will”.<br />
So I absolutely took her advice and after<br />
that, no one picked <strong>in</strong> me aga<strong>in</strong>! High school<br />
came around and all the guys wanted to<br />
befriend me which I didn’t accept. But now<br />
as a adult, I do speak to some. When people<br />
ask when did you turn gay there’s no turn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
po<strong>in</strong>t. It’s always <strong>in</strong> you, one does not bump<br />
your head and wake up after a long nap and<br />
say I woke up gay! No, no, no, not cute.<br />

I was 15 (late bloomer?) He was older of<br />
course and sex wasn’t a th<strong>in</strong>g for me yet,<br />
just the fact that it was a man that was very<br />

THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis<br />
Well, another <strong>week</strong> has gone by and the USA has<br />
not started a new war. Not for lack of try<strong>in</strong>g by<br />
the President though.<br />
He has slapped tariffs on many, many countries -<br />
largest of all is Ch<strong>in</strong>a with hundreds of millions of<br />
dollars on quite a few products. Steel, alum<strong>in</strong>um,<br />
food products and more. Of course, Ch<strong>in</strong>a and<br />
others are already retaliat<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
What does this mean to us? Higher prices on<br />
all goods that have had tariffs raised, regardless<br />
of which country imposed them. Car prices,<br />
food stuffs, alum<strong>in</strong>um, steel, and on and on.<br />
<strong>This</strong> will also be devastat<strong>in</strong>g to US farmers, rust<br />
belt <strong>in</strong>dustries and more. We will probably see<br />
significant job losses, bus<strong>in</strong>esses close and some<br />
states may fall <strong>in</strong>to recession. The stock market<br />
is already feel<strong>in</strong>g the effect of these actions.<br />
On immigration, Trump has not been happy<br />
with the amount of money that Congress will<br />
appropriate for his mythical wall, so he is<br />
send<strong>in</strong>g the National Guard to be a human<br />
wall. Of course, hav<strong>in</strong>g part time soldiers with<br />
automatic weapons would never have unforeseen<br />
consequences.<br />
As the <strong>week</strong> ended, Trump announce the wanted<br />
our troops out of Syria with<strong>in</strong> 6 months. <strong>This</strong><br />
emboldened Assad, who immediately launched<br />
a chemical weapon attack on a prov<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>in</strong><br />
Syria that has been part of the resistance. Now<br />
Trump must decide what to do and he has no<br />
NATIONAL security Advisor, no Secretary of<br />
State, no CIA Director. I guess Jared is advis<strong>in</strong>g<br />
his father-<strong>in</strong>-law. God help us.<br />

Locally, elections are heat<strong>in</strong>g up. Rancho Mirage<br />
has it’s city election this <strong>week</strong>. Supervisor and<br />
state races are <strong>in</strong> June. Our area is becom<strong>in</strong>g a<br />
fundrais<strong>in</strong>g Mecca. Organizations like Human<br />
Rights Campaign and Victory Fund have held<br />
events here for years, but now candidates are<br />
com<strong>in</strong>g. State Treasurer candidate Fiona Ma (D)<br />
was here last <strong>week</strong> and Governor candidate and<br />
current State Treasurer, John Chiang (D) will be<br />
here next <strong>week</strong>.<br />
We all know the dire need for affordable<br />
hous<strong>in</strong>g, nut it even more acute <strong>in</strong> the veteran’s<br />
population. Cathedral City is work<strong>in</strong>g on<br />
that and is partner<strong>in</strong>g with Urban Hous<strong>in</strong>g<br />
Communities to build 60 units on Landa Blvd.<br />
<strong>This</strong> will be a $27 million-dollar project. We<br />
have All but $2.3M committed, but that seems<br />
to be <strong>in</strong> reach. It is anticipated to break ground<br />
early next year. The VA will be prov<strong>in</strong>g services<br />
on sight, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g two case workers. <strong>This</strong> will<br />
be a great boost for the West Valley.<br />
Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia is author<strong>in</strong>g a<br />
bill to designate the LGBT Veterans Memorial<br />
<strong>in</strong> Cathedral City as the official state Memorial.<br />
Mayor Stan Henry and I will be fly<strong>in</strong>g up to<br />
Sacramento to meet with the Assemblyman and<br />
lobby the legislators.<br />
