aBout thE CEntEr on EduCation and Work Host of the 20 th annual <strong>Careers</strong> Conference The <strong>Center</strong> on Education and Work (CEW) enables educators to engage youth and adults in learning and career development experiences that lead to meaningful and productive careers. CEW undertakes research, development, and capacity-building technical assistance activities to strengthen the connections among educational institutions, workplaces, communities, and families. Ultimately, the <strong>Center</strong>’s efforts are designed to enhance the quality of career-related learning in schools, colleges, and the workplace for all individuals. CEW’s 2005-2010 Mission: To collaboratively produce new knowledge and effective practices which strengthen learning and career development in and across education, workplace, family, and community settings. CEW’s Strategic Priorities: · Align and Integrate Learning, Instruction, and <strong>Careers</strong> · Create, Test, and Disseminate Learning Supports · Optimize Leadership, Policy, and Systems Change
W elcome to <strong>Careers</strong> Conference 2006: Celebrating and Building on 20 Years of Connecting Education and <strong>Careers</strong>. We are delighted that you could join us for this exciting 20th anniversary conference on career development and education for careers. This conference began as a small regional conference in 1986 designed to help prepare career development providers to deliver a high level of career services. Over the last 20 years, it has grown into a high quality, widely respected national event, focusing on all aspects of career development and careers education. We are pleased to welcome practitioners from settings as diverse as K-12 schools, government agencies, postsecondary institutions, private practice, workforce development, job centers, and others... hailing from across the nation and beyond. Here you will find like-minded colleagues who face similar challenges to those you face—and who are eager to discuss ideas, programs, resources, and strategies. What does the future hold? As the need for career services continues to grow... as the diversity of the individuals we serve continues to demand new resources and approaches... so will the need for a comprehensive, high quality event for career development professionals and paraprofessionals continue.
