What is the New Ec<strong>on</strong>omy? What impact will it have <strong>on</strong> tomorrow’s jobs? How<br />
are industry, careers, <strong>and</strong> educati<strong>on</strong> being reshaped—<strong>and</strong> what should we be doing<br />
differently to prepare our clients <strong>and</strong> students? Based <strong>on</strong> the presenter’s extensive<br />
background as an ec<strong>on</strong>omist, this sessi<strong>on</strong> will explore the significance <strong>of</strong> the New<br />
Ec<strong>on</strong>omy <strong>and</strong> its impact <strong>on</strong> the workforce <strong>and</strong> jobs <strong>of</strong> the future.<br />
David Ward, Ph.D., established NorthStar Ec<strong>on</strong>omics in May 2000. His work <strong>on</strong> “Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin<br />
<strong>and</strong> the New Ec<strong>on</strong>omy” has been widely recognized. Ward has extensive experience<br />
in strategic planning <strong>and</strong> has authored strategic ec<strong>on</strong>omic development plans for clients<br />
in Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin, Wyoming, <strong>and</strong> New Hampshire. His studies include: A Systematic Evaluati<strong>on</strong><br />
Process for a Science <strong>and</strong> Technology Strategy in New Hampshire; A Strategic<br />
Ec<strong>on</strong>omic Development Plan for The Town <strong>of</strong> Saratoga, Wyoming; An Ec<strong>on</strong>omic Agenda<br />
<strong>and</strong> Operating Plan for the Internati<strong>on</strong>al Trade, Business, <strong>and</strong> Ec<strong>on</strong>omic Development<br />
Council <strong>of</strong> Southwest Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin; <strong>and</strong> An Ec<strong>on</strong>omic Development Adjustment Plan for<br />
Door County, Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin.<br />
Ward is an active investor <strong>and</strong> bel<strong>on</strong>gs to the Origin Investment Group <strong>of</strong> La Crosse,<br />
Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin. He is the co-author <strong>of</strong> the 2003 <strong>and</strong> 2005 NorthStar Guide to Growth <strong>and</strong><br />
Venture Capital. Ward earned a BBA, MBA <strong>and</strong> Ph.D. in Finance from the <strong>University</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin-Madis<strong>on</strong>. Ward completed a 31-year career in the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin<br />
System in July <strong>of</strong> 2000. He held teaching positi<strong>on</strong>s at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin-Green<br />
Bay <strong>and</strong> Oshkosh.<br />

This presentati<strong>on</strong> will summarize a two-year study <strong>of</strong> a theory-based, curriculum<br />
integrati<strong>on</strong> study. Students in the experimental group outperformed students in the<br />
c<strong>on</strong>trol group in all five Career <strong>and</strong> Technical Educati<strong>on</strong> replicati<strong>on</strong> sites. The pedagogic<br />
model tested in this study <strong>and</strong> the processes necessary to achieve the results will be<br />
shared.<br />
