Office-building mock-ups have been used in teaching adults <strong>and</strong> at-risk high school<br />

students to visualize the interview <strong>and</strong> job search envir<strong>on</strong>ments. A modular <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

building can be c<strong>on</strong>structed using basic craft materials <strong>and</strong> be modularly designed to<br />

represent different companies <strong>and</strong> interview scenarios. The buildings are made al<strong>on</strong>g<br />

workshop themes <strong>and</strong> reinforce the learning objectives. A variety <strong>of</strong> miniature gaming<br />

figures support developing workshops al<strong>on</strong>g different themes: samurai for the Art <strong>of</strong><br />

r 0 Using Assessment Tools to Develop People [H, P, A]<br />

North Central Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin <strong>Work</strong>force Development has piloted the use <strong>of</strong> two employee<br />

assessment tools in their nine-county workforce area in partnership with SHRM<br />

<strong>and</strong> local businesses. This employer-led project should lead to better awareness<br />

<strong>and</strong> validati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> the skills acquired <strong>and</strong> needed by individuals in the future. Each<br />

tool (WORKeys <strong>and</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>ile, Inc.) will be shared, the pilot structure outlined, <strong>and</strong> a<br />

discussi<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> the results c<strong>on</strong>ducted. The audience will be able to discuss ways they<br />

could use these or similar assessments in their career or employee development system.<br />

The two-part seminar first assesses needs <strong>and</strong> barriers for participati<strong>on</strong>. The sec<strong>on</strong>d<br />

part assists in developing resources available to help students overcome barriers, meet<br />

specific needs, <strong>and</strong> attain their educati<strong>on</strong>al goals.<br />
