Explore ways to connect career clusters, career pathways, and career development
at the local level. Lesson plans developed by K-12 educators that connect current
academic content standards to career development’s key topics will be shared, as well
as resources for aligning interests to clusters and pathways. Participants will be able to
take ideas and materials that support a K-12 system-wide career development program.

r69 Using Miniatures and Models as Job Search Training Aids [M, H, P, A]
Office-building mock-ups have been used in teaching adults and at-risk high school
students to visualize the interview and job search environments. A modular office
building can be constructed using basic craft materials and be modularly designed to
represent different companies and interview scenarios. The buildings are made along
workshop themes and reinforce the learning objectives. A variety of miniature gaming
figures support developing workshops along different themes: samurai for the Art of
War and monsters for Halloween. Repeats as Concurrent 18.

r 0 Using Assessment Tools to Develop People [H, P, A]
North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development has piloted the use of two employee
assessment tools in their nine-county workforce area in partnership with SHRM
and local businesses. This employer-led project should lead to better awareness
and validation of the skills acquired and needed by individuals in the future. Each
tool (WORKeys and Profile, Inc.) will be shared, the pilot structure outlined, and a
discussion of the results conducted. The audience will be able to discuss ways they
could use these or similar assessments in their career or employee development system.

The presenter will share an outline and lesson plan for an informational seminar
designed for returning adults who want to participate in postsecondary education.
The two-part seminar first assesses needs and barriers for participation. The second
part assists in developing resources available to help students overcome barriers, meet
specific needs, and attain their educational goals.

This session will provide information from the National Clearinghouse on
Postsecondary Education for Individuals with Disabilities, HEATH Resource <strong>Center</strong> at
The George Washington University. The newest publication from HEATH, “Guidance
and Career Counselor’s Toolkit: Advising High School Students with Disabilities on
Postsecondary Options,” will be featured. Additional information on publications,
resources, websites, and links to consortium members will be provided. Repeats as
