This district has developed a plan, including a Freshman Academy, to insure a smooth,
successful transition for ninth grade students. As part of the plan’s development,
four Career Academies were formed. In addition to addressing career development
for all students, this project specifically targets students who are at risk due to poor
motivation, a history of failure, attendance issues, and/or unstable home situations

The purpose of this session is to inform career practitioners of the current status of
certificate credentializing programs. Topics such as the requirement for continuing
education, codes of ethics, number of individuals holding the certification, and
credentialing organizations will be covered. Additionally, evaluation of the
appropriateness of these for attendees and the perceived impact on the profession will
be highlighted.

SALON D C103 Partnership Models that Lead to Healthcare Education, Critical Skills
Attainment, and Employment [H, P, A]
This session will explore the design and implementation of an education-to-career
model that partners secondary and postsecondary education, three high schools, a
healthcare employer, and a funding agency. The Triton College/Westlake Hospital
Scholarship Program is designed to address the educational needs of underpriveliged
students, as well as employes’ needs for additional nurses and allied healthcare
professionals. The program is recognized as a best practice program by the Illinois State
Board of Higher Education and the Illinois Community College Board.
