How does the Skill Exchange design incorporate purpose, community’s passion and emotions into the architectural design? The entrance facade of the structure stands as a prominent symbol along Moshoeshoe Street, a key arterial route cutting through Sebokeng which is also the main route linking the Vaal to Johannesburg. The order upon which the centre stands has been portrayed by the 4 pillars that form the portico of the building. This symbol has also been evoked by four internal columns within the workspace. The internal open plan layout of the workspace is a catalyst for a culture of collaboration and exchange which is a break away from the conventional learning and working spaces we have become accustomed to. There are no boundaries inhibiting the flow of positive energies, intellectual exchange, social upliftment and spiritual encounter that embodies the space. Where do you think this design inspires “action” that unites the community for a single orientated goal? Irrespective of race, gender, social and economic status, every user of the space is placed at a level playing field and given the opportunity to interact with like-minded individuals. This open attitude creates a an effective lessons learnt feedback loop that inspires creative problem-solving.
