Fortunately, Skill Exchange Makerspace creates a platform that offers a
different lens for youth from all walks of life by exploring opportunity
within challenges. This concept allows youth to explore not only income
generating and job opportunities but generate insights from behaviors to
identify new markets. It introduces youth to the possibility of an inclusive
social business value chain that can only be achieved from collaboration,
selfless exposure and communication. Knowing that showing initiative by
simply volunteering can break the wheel of poverty is always the first step
to achieving not only your ultimate dreams and goals but those that can
rebuild the continent.
How does service learning shape tomorrow’s approach to personal and
career development?
In my opinion, volunteering in the modern business and public sector
environment is a conducive tool for youth to build a career and personal
development without the “Fear of Making Mistakes” which tends to detract
99% of the youth from being innovative, high performers, experts and the
biggest human breakthrough- learning. This is based on the emphasis that if
a person undertakes duties that are not for monetary gains then results
will be purely based on passion hence will be more attuned to the process
and the prospect of building a future not just for an individual but rather for
populations that cannot establish mechanisms to do so. Volunteering
provides a window for self-discovery however it also offers a perspective
of the different cultures and behaviours which help us become more
emotionally intelligent.
