Continued- Where does YALI see service learning as
a means to building social currency for
professional career?
Public sector, entrepreneurs and the civic sector
although independent, are interdependent sectors
that need to work together as they influence each
other on a larger scale. Service learning encourages
a blend of those sector knowledge areas that a
professional career can benefit from that results
in forming life-time relationships that can manifest
into inclusive value chains. This drives diverse
thinking and positive influence that can translate
into generating tangible value.
Whom would benefit from a service learning
experience from such a diverse pool of Africa’s
young population?
The concept of volunteering for the large pool of
employable youth in Africa is that it will be able to
separate the leaders from followers. So in a sense
it is possible for the majority of youth to benefit
from volunteering because there would be those
that initiate and establish projects as well as create
employment and on the other hand there would be
the others that would benefit from gaining skills and
knowledge through employment in various
ventures.
