to believe in tomorrow” is<br />
a quote attributed to actor<br />
Audrey Hepburn. When the<br />
TSHP Research & Education<br />
Foundation Board reached<br />
its 40th year, members<br />
of the board of directors<br />
undertook a task to update<br />
the foundation’s branding,<br />
including a new logo<br />
and tagline. <strong>The</strong> imagery<br />
of a nurturing garden or<br />
a tree was symbolic of<br />
the sentiment many TSHP<br />

members feel about the work the Foundation was<br />
established to do: to support and nurture pharmacy<br />
education, research, and professional development<br />
through a legacy of giving.<br />
<strong>The</strong> generosity of TSHP members in tending this work<br />
is astounding. <strong>The</strong> cumulative assets of the Foundation<br />
are a direct result of member and component chapter<br />
contributions over the last four decades; this truly is<br />
your garden. Though the reasons for giving vary –<br />
the memory of dear loved ones, the appreciation of<br />
a mentor, the desire to seed research, the care to<br />
support current students – the result is akin to planting<br />
a seed. <strong>The</strong> R&E Foundation’s new logo featuring a<br />
tree with the accompanying tag line “Planting Seeds<br />
for Success” seemed a fitting illustration of the TSHP<br />
members’ belief in and commitment to their peers and<br />
their future.<br />
In addition to the new logo and tagline, the<br />
Foundation Board realigned the donor recognition<br />
categories to better represent the levels of contributor<br />
commitment. <strong>The</strong>se new categories are: Annual<br />
Legacy ($5,000 and above), Philanthropist ($2,500<br />
- $4,999), Patron ($1,000 - $2,499), Benefactor<br />
($500 - $999), Sponsor ($100 - $499), and<br />
Friend of the Foundation (Up to $99). While these<br />
categories represent annual giving, there is also<br />
a desire to honor repeated giving. Because of the<br />
efforts of Board member Frederick Mullins, an archive<br />
review of Foundation records since the establishment<br />
of the Board reveals a few standout individuals and<br />
local chapters whose consistent and repeated support<br />
over the years warrant special recognition. This article<br />
serves as a bit of a teaser of more to come as the<br />
Board is currently planning a new avenue of honoring<br />
these special individuals.<br />

report provides the 2017 recipients of scholarship,<br />
poster, and seed grant awards, and the Foundation’s<br />
balance sheet as of the end of calendar year 2017. In<br />
this edition of the <strong>Lone</strong> <strong>Star</strong> <strong>Pharmacist</strong>, we are happy<br />
to share the <strong>2018</strong> recipients of these scholarships and<br />
awards announced at the Annual Seminar this past<br />
April.<br />
