PULMONARY CARE PROGRAM AT PILGRIM
Designed specifically for those needing
management of chronic respiratory
conditions, our Pulmonary Care
Program helps patients return home as
quickly and effectively as possible.
GUT CHECK
Research into the complex relationship between gut bacteria and
the human body reveals that disturbances in microbial composition
can lead to a large number of diseases. With this in mind, we have all
the more reason to limit our unnecessary intake of antibiotics, which
dramatically disrupt microbial balance in the human gut. Moreover, a
recent study suggests that a number of non-antibiotic medications
have also been associated with changes in gut microbe composition.
When researchers compiled a panel of 40 species of human-gut
bacteria and used it to screen more than 1,000 drugs, they found that,
of the 923 non-antibiotic drugs analyzed, 250 were found to have
disrupted the growth of at least one of the 40 species of gut bacteria
in the panel.
Only bacterial infections can be killed with antibiotics. The common
cold, flu, most coughs and sore throats, and the stomach flu are all
caused by viruses. Antibiotics won’t work to treat them. Your doctor
will tell you either to wait these illnesses out or prescribe antiviral
drugs to help you get rid of them. For more information, please call or
visit VILLAGE PHARMACY in the Colonial Shopping Center
