Bahadir Gökçetekin has joined<br />

Karpaz Gate <strong>Marina</strong>, North Cyprus,<br />

as harbour master.<br />

A qualified naval architect and marine<br />

engineer with extensive experience<br />

in boatyard work, technical repair<br />

and refit servicing, he is fluent in<br />

both his native Turkish and English. A<br />

key aspect of his duties is to use his<br />

shipyard management skills to continue<br />

to establish the Karpaz Gate <strong>Marina</strong><br />

Boatyard as one of the leading facilities<br />

in the eastern Mediterranean.<br />

“I greatly admire the way in which<br />

Karpaz Gate <strong>Marina</strong> has opened<br />

up this beautiful area of the East<br />

Mediterranean to sailors and has so<br />

quickly become such a popular and<br />

unique homeport and destination,”<br />

he said. “I feel very proud to start<br />

contributing to the continued growth<br />

and enhancement of Karpaz Gate<br />

<strong>Marina</strong>’s status as one of the<br />

Mediterranean’s premium marinas.”<br />

Jason Stangland<br />

has been<br />

appointed to head<br />

up SmithGroupJJR’s Waterfront<br />

Practice. He takes over the role from<br />

Bill Brose, PE, who will continue as a<br />

senior waterfront expert with primary<br />

focus on advancing project design<br />

and construction.<br />

Stangland joined the company<br />

in 2005 and has nearly 20 years of<br />

experience in landscape architecture,<br />

urban design, planning and waterfront<br />

development. As Waterfront Practice<br />

director, he will focus on the needs of<br />

the firm’s current clients, strengthen the<br />

company’s position as a leading design<br />

and engineering firm for waterfront<br />

environments, and identify opportunities<br />

for expansion.<br />

Melbourne’s newest marina, Wyndham Harbour on Port Phillip Bay, has<br />

received <strong>Marina</strong> Industries Association (MIA) Clean <strong>Marina</strong> and Gold Anchor<br />

accreditations.<br />

Wyndham Harbour boating facilities<br />

include 150 wet berths (10-20m [33-<br />

66ft] and multihull), 24/7 fuel dock,<br />

pump-out, security patrols and CCTV,<br />

sailing school, members lounge, dining<br />

options, boat sales and chandlery.<br />

Long term plans are for up to 1,000<br />

boat storage spaces to be provided.<br />

MIA chairman, Andrew Chapman,<br />

said the marina and the associated<br />

bayside community development is<br />

a credit to its investors. “Melbourne<br />

and Port Phillip Bay is now a more<br />

complete destination for boaters<br />

Purdie<br />

Whitsundays,<br />

Queensland,<br />

has appointed<br />

Kate Purdie<br />

as general<br />

manager.<br />

She replaces Luke McCaul who is<br />

exploring new opportunities in the<br />

marine and superyacht sectors.<br />

Purdie brings 20 years of<br />

management experience to the role,<br />

having served as vice president<br />

of several multinational media<br />

corporations. Her strength is an ability<br />

to drive international business, which<br />

aligns with Abell Point <strong>Marina</strong>’s recently<br />

amended vision to become a leading<br />

international marina.<br />

and Gold Anchor accreditations were<br />

used as part of the development<br />

criteria during the marina build.”<br />

are seeing more marina developments<br />

using industry driven accreditation<br />

guidelines to inform the planning and<br />

development of marinas; to meet the<br />

market needs and to keep ahead of<br />

regulatory requirements,” he added.<br />

Goh Thye Hock CMP<br />

The Global <strong>Marina</strong> Institute (GMI) has<br />

awarded Goh Thye Hock Certified<br />

<strong>Marina</strong> Professional (CMP) status.<br />

He joins the ranks of two other CMPs<br />

in Asia but is the first to receive this<br />

recognition in the Hong Kong region.<br />

Goh Thye Hock has been in senior<br />

positions across the marine industry<br />

in Asia for over ten years and has<br />

been involved in Taiwanese marina<br />

development, superyacht charter<br />

in China, and sailing and marina<br />

management in Singapore. He<br />

attended the GMI Intermediate and<br />

Advance <strong>Marina</strong> Management courses<br />

held in Australia in 2006 and 2009<br />

respectively.<br />
