HARD TOP JOB

Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire
■ Mick’s love of Minis started when he was
a lad of 10, driving around his uncle’s pig
farm! Once an adult, Mick decided to build
his own Mini to his own spec, and the
result was this 1991 Mini that he bought for
just £200 five-years ago, although it came
as a shell and boxes. A total body rebuild
followed, but Mick wanted a Convertible
with a hard top and not canvas. It took 18
months of hard graft and modifications,
but he managed to get it to work. Painted
in Old English White with an interior from
the Mary Quant limited edition, everything
has been rebuilt except the engine, which
will be detailed later, when he gets time!

RARE AND QUIRKY
Name: Paul Wylde
Cars: 1971 Stimson Minibug
Location: Dudley, West Midlands
■ Paul has owned this unusual Minibug for 25
years. It was restored four-years ago, having
previously being owned by his brother. A full nutand-bolt
rebuild, the restoration also included
new framework. One of just 160 made in righthand
drive, Paul tells us there are just a handful
left on British roads now. Powered by a 1275cc A+
engine from an MG Metro, we reckon all that
power and the lightweight build should equal a
fun drive. This isn’t the only Mini-based kit car
that Paul owns, as he’s almost finished restoring
a 1972 Stimson Safari 6 from 1972, too.
