Tour the World’s Oldest 

Fishing Club and 

Support the Catalina Island 

Museum 

The historic clubhouse – a nationally 

registered historic landmark – houses 

trophies, artifacts, photographs and other 

relics documenting the history of big game 

fishing and the first recorded rod and 

reel catches of tuna, marlin and broadbill 

swordfish. During the tour, Farrior will 

share information about the location of the 

club’s three headquarters, describe what was 

destroyed in the devastating fire of 1915 and 

reveal stories about its famous and infamous 

anglers and Hollywood celebrity members. 

He will show a number of inventions 

developed in Avalon, from outriggers, fish 

flags, and modern reels to tuna fishing 

kites. With its membership committed to 

tradition, marine conservation and highly 

competitive angling, Farrior will also share 

what makes the Tuna Club relevant in 

today’s changing world. 

JULY 23, 2018, AVALON, CATALINA 

ISLAND – Once a year, the clubhouse of the 

world’s oldest fishing club opens to the public 

to benefit the Catalina Island Museum. This 

year’s tours will take place on Saturday, 

August 11 th . Tuna Club historian, Michael 

Farrior, will lead each tour revealing the rich 

history and traditions of sport fishing on 

Catalina Island. 

Often referred to as the foremost authority 

on the history of big game fishing, Farrior 

has served as Tuna Club Historian since 

1988 and was President of the Tuna Club for 

the 1998-99 season. He is the recipient of 

numerous Congressional, writing, scientific, 

fishing, clubs and conservation appreciation 

awards and proclamations, including the 

Winthrop Rockefeller Lifetime Achievement 

Award from the Billfish Foundation, awarded 

in 2017. Declared a National Treasure by the 

United States Congress and the International 

Game Fish Association,

Farrior was also inducted into the California 

Outdoor Hall of Fame with such alumni as 

Ansel Adams and John Muir. 

This rare opportunity to tour the Tuna Club 

of Avalon is offered on Saturday, August 11 th 

only. Due to its popularity, a fourth tour time 

has been added this year. Guided tours will 

take place at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 2:00 pm 

and 3:00 pm. Only 25 tickets are available 

for each tour. Tickets are $30 for members 

of the museum and $35 for non-members. 

All proceeds directly benefit the Catalina 

Island Museum. This event is expected to 

sell out, be sure to purchase your tickets

THE 30 BEST LGBTQ FILMS OF ALL 

TIME??? IF YOU AGREE! 

The upcoming Palm Springs LGBTQ Film 

Festival to be held this September from the 

20 - 23 will include some of the variety and 

creativity that is currently being shown at 

the Las Angles Outfest which is ending this 

week. 

The diversity of the LGBTQ films that have 

been produced and are being shown this 

year include not only topics of gay repression 

and discrimination but also include topics 

of desire, love, and commitment along with 

creativity and exhilaration that is found in 

LBGTQ relationships and life styles. 

After at least 30 years of the erroneously 

titled gay conversion therapy also known 

as "reparative therapy" or ex-gay therapy, 

proving to be completely harmful and 

inhumane to the participants, topics of 

several of this year's films delve into the 

destructive effects that has resulted. One of 

the films, which is just being widely released, 

titled "The Miseducation of Cameron Post", 

tells the true story of a Montana girl who 

was subjected to conversion therapy and 

her defiance of the attempt to "re-educate" 

her to a life that is not her natural life style. 

Another conversion therapy film to be 

release this fall, titled, "Boy Erased" which 

stars Lucas Hedges as the lead character. He 

plays the son of a Southern Baptist minister 

played by Russel Crow and Nicole Kidman 

who plays the wife and mother. Lucas is 

forced to participate in a gay conversion 

program while still discovering his sexual 

identification. A film of parents dealing with 

AdamsArtExpose’ 

finding a kindergarten for a 5-year-old boy 

who is transgendered, staring Clair Danes 

and Jim Parsons includes humor and serious 

discussion. 

Not all of this year’s LBGTQ films are on 

controversial issues. Many are celebrating 

the joy in relationships and in being gay or 

transgendered in the world. 

In the film, " The Gospel According to 

Andre" a documentary on Andre Leon 

Talley. Andre grew up as an African 

American transgendered individual in the 

segregated and repressive State of North 

Carolina. He becomes a head fashion figure 

with Conde Nast, publishers of Vanity Fair 

and GQ. A French film title "Duck Butter", 

about a lesbian relationship with raw 

intimacy and lots of sex. "Marvin" another 

French film produced in 2017, of a boy 

coming of age and realizing his sexuality.

Fabeyonce “Love Yourself ” 

When I first started doing drag, it for me was 

whatever......... 

I didn't know much of what I was doing, but as 

I got into more and more, I saw myself trying 

to be the best I can be and pushing myself in 

ways that I've never have. 

I was constantly on youtube watching tutorials 

and how to do different smoky eyes, how to 

contour, what colors are best for my skin tone, 

etc. I used to buy clothes off the rack, but 

now I have my mother in law JaquiD, making 

everything I wear from gowns, to mini dresses, 

bathing suits, and more. Man am I lucky. Now 

working on all this together made me who I 

am today, a voluptuous queen and I take so 

much pride in that. It wasn't long ago that my 

confidence was brought down by others who 

made fun of me being fat, or because I don't 

do my makeup a certain way. At first it didn't 

bother me, but after a while it gets to you when 

you hear it more often... Maybe I am fat, and I 

see myself differently in the mirror, maybe my 

makeup is all wrong. So, I began to feel like am 

I not good enough. I worked my ass off for 5 

years to be brought down by the same clowns 

doing the same shit I'm doing. 

So I had to take a step back and evaluate 

myself. Ask myself “Do I love myself?” and 

the answer is yes. I love Fabian and I love 

Fabeyonce. I'm a husky man and a curvy 

woman. I work hard and enjoy what I do and 

will never let anyone take that from me, the 

crowd is who I answer to. If the crowd loves 

me then (I'm doing great) in Miss Vicky Vox’s 

voice. 

no nails, to who I become today. I Love Myself 

no matter what. 

I pride myself and I look at myself when 

everybody else is complimenting everyone, 

except me and I say Fabeyonce, girl, you did 

this. You’re doing this and don't forget who you 

are, you’re not a snotty, stuck up bitch. You’re a 

sweet, kind, loving tramp like no one else and if 

no one likes that, then screw them. Be one of a 

kind. Be a unicorn. Be unique. Push yourself in 

ways you've never done to be where you wanna 

be, show everyone how happy you are to be the 

person you choose to be. 

With doing so, I've learned a lot about myself 

and about my drag sister. I love the one thing 

we all have in common is that we are all the 

realest. No bs between us. We love each other 

as we should and work off each other to show 

that this is possible. 

I wake up every morning thankful and blessed 

that I'm still here and that I'm still able to 

do the things that I love and give the crowd 

something a little more, so that they can say, 

“Wow, I love this bitch. She's big, but she's 

doing the damn thing”.

Modesty aside, how would you describe 

yourself? 

Middle aged and barely holding it 

together. No, I would say I am... sensitive 

and thoughtful and probably in my 

head more than is healthy. But my heart 

is genuinely in the right place. 

You are a native of Los Angeles, born 

in Pasadena. How is West Hollywood / 

Los Angeles different than other major 

cities? 

I haven’t figured out how to correct my 

IMDB and Wikipedia pages, but I was 

actually born in Hollywood, right there 

on Fountain near Vermont Avenue. In 

the 1970s, there was a hospital called 

Cedars of Lebanon. That building was 

later re-purposed and painted blue. 

Yes... I’m talking about the Church of 

Scientology. However, I grew up in 

Altadena and Pasadena and moved to 

LA after college. Los Angeles is different 

from other cities in that the area called 

Downtown is totally out of the way... 

and our public transportation system 

leaves quite a bit to be desired. 

What are you currently working on? 

Right now, I’m working on a new 

musical called “Hipster Sweatshop.” 

My friends Kyle Puccia and Kurtis 

Simmons wrote some indie-pop songs 

and the outline for the book. Then 

I came in to fine tune the script and 

wrote a few more songs. We’re having 

two shows at Rockwell Table & Stage on 

August 13 and 14. We’ll also be shooting 

a short film version of a few of the 

scenes at the end of the summer. It’s a 

really fun show and I’m excited for people 

to see it. 

What do you like about West 

Hollywood? 

I like that it’s there for people who need 

it. I like that there’s a gay center of town 

and an ostensibly safe space for LGBTQ 

people to spend time with their friends. 

It’s a little loud and drunk for me, 

personally, but I’m glad the kids have 

somewhere to go.\

I just learned of a program called 

#TransCanWork. Trans folks experience 

a multitude of challenges in securing a 

living wage and this program not only 

connects employers with trans folks 

seeking work, but they also help prepare 

candidates for their interviews. It’s 

incredibly important that we do everything 

we can protect and uplift the most 

vulnerable in our communities and one 

way we can do that is by supporting and 

donating at transcanwork.org.

do you most admire? 

Maxine Waters is giving me life right 

now. If the community to which you’re 

referring is LGBTQ, Janet Mock is also 

giving me all the feels...

THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis 

I have had incredible opportunities the last 

several years to travel to many countries; India, 

Thailand, China, South Korea, South Africa, 

Swaziland, Laos, México, Canada and Italy. 

Everywhere I have been, the people have been 

friendly, gracious and generous. The people in 

every country also had the same question to 

ask me - “How did Donald Trump get elected 

President?” or “How could the USA go from 

Barak Obama to Donald Trump?”. It has been 

so hard to answer because honestly, I have no 

clue. 

Now to be fair; I live in California, am 

successful in my business and I love my 

work with the City. So, I can’t really judge 

what people in Arkansas, Mississippi, West 

Virginia or any of the other red states that went 

with Trump. I don’t know, nor understand 

their hardships or discouragement. But my 

God, there were 11 other candidates on the 

Republican side! 

This week Trump finally admitted to Russian 

interference in the 2016 election but offered no 

money to the states to help protect their voting 

systems. More Russians were indicted for their 

role in hacking Clinton and DNC emails. His 

campaign manager goes on trial next week for 

close to 100 charges- tax fraud being one of the 

big ones. 

We also heard an audio tape of a conversation 

between Trump and his “fixer” Michael Cohen 

discussing paying off a Playboy bunny that 

Trump had an affair with AND we learned 

there were at least eleven more tapes. Richard 

Nixon at least waited till yeas 4 and 5 of his 

Presidency. And he wasn’t trying to payoff 

hookers, get in bed with Russia (literally and 

figuratively). 

It also seems that the White House is preparing 

short lists for a new Chief of Staff and new 

Press Secretary. We are very close to having 

almost the entire starting lineup gone. We’ll all 

except Ivanka and Jared. 

The light at the tunnel is that the midterm 

elections are just 98 days away. Trump said he 

wants to spend 5-6 days a week campaigning 

for Republicans. The pros on that side said 

forget the House. Use whatever influence you 

have on the Senate because, “that is where 

impeachment will be decided,”. Everyone seems 

to know time is running out. 

Now is the time to register to vote. Volunteer 

on phone banks. Take a few days and go 

volunteer in Arizona or New Mexico. We must 

take back our country. And always, Rise Up, 

Fight Back AND Resist!
