intersection and road projects. A recommended $4.7 million in stormwater projects aims to improve drainage throughout the County. Hunzeker’s Recommended Budget also includes a proposed 30 percent reduction in building permit and inspection fees that will lower the cost of doing business with the Building Department on most projects. Most of the fee reductions will benefit homeowners seeking to add to or remodel their homes. The reduction in fees is the result of a strong rebound in the local economy with building permits fully covering expenses in the Building Division of the Building and Development Services Department. Building and permit fees can only be used to fund the Building Division and cannot supplement other parts of the County budget. County Commissioners will review the budget in great detail during a series of public workshops this summer. All budget meetings will be held in the County Administration Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W. during this summer schedule: Two public hearings will be held in September to finalize and adopt the FY2018-18 budget. Dates will be announced later this year. All budget materials will be posted to the County’s website at www. mymanatee.org/budget as they’re available later this summer. Manatee County invites community to go ‘Back to the Future’ What do you want Manatee County to look like in 2038? That’s the question Manatee County Government is asking residents through a visioning project focused on infrastructure, quality of life, economics and housing. This visioning project, titled “Back to the Future,” highlights what the County looked like in 1998, how we have progressed to what we have now in 2018, and predicts the future of the County in 2038. “It is imperative to begin planning for the future today,” said Manatee County Administrator Ed Hunzeker. “This is the opportunity for residents to voice their opinion on key issues that affect our area and for us as county government to listen.” “Our goal is to eliminate as many barriers to participate as possible,” said Simone Peterson, Neighborhood Services Specialist. “We want Manatee County to continue being a great place to live, work, and play, but we need participation from our residents.” In addition to neighborhood/organization-specific presentations, seven public sessions are scheduled to accommodate residents. Peterson said each session will give visitors a glimpse of future community needs, along with a chance to prioritize them. The workshops will be held at the following locations and dates: 10
