READ MORE Manatee Libraries Partners With SCORE Again to Bring New Meet-Up Workshops Manatee Libraries announced today a new four-part monthly series in partnership with Manasota SCORE that takes small business owners through the lifecycle of a business. The “Your Business From Start to Finish” series, which concludes September 25 at Downtown Central Library, touches on a variety of helpful tips, including designing an elevator pitch, safety and security, disaster planning, community giving and exit planning strategies. This series is the latest installment of business classes offered by Manatee Libraries, winner of this year’s Florida Library Association’s Libraries Mean Business Award and Manasota SCORE, 2017 Mid-size market SCORE Chapter of the Year. This is the third year Manatee Libraries and SCORE have partnered to bring informational free workshops to small business owners. Last year’s focus was financial while the year before that was social media. All workshops have been well attended. Ericka Dow, Information Services Supervisor, says her team is committed to providing relevant topics identified through outreach events and surveys. 6
“These events not only offer an educational opportunity for small business owners and entrepreneurs but also a chance for networking, a key component of success. We thank Manasota SCORE for their continued partnership,” said Dow. The workshops, which meet on the last Tuesday of the month, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, at Downtown Library, are as follows: August 28: Giving Back is GOOD for Business: Supporting the local community is not only the right thing to do, it’s also a savvy business move. According to Fortune, giving back by donating money to local non-profits, allowing employees to volunteer on work time, and otherwise operating with a spirit of generosity is correlated with higher rates of employee retention and satisfaction. In this session, the three panelists will discuss the importance of giving back to the community as part of a successful business model. Panelists are John Horne, owner of Anna Maria Oyster Bar and winner of National Restaurant Association Good Neighbor Award; Jacki Dezelski, president of Manatee Chamber of Commerce; and Trudy Moon, owner of Air & Energy. September 25: Exit Strategy Imperative: You put so much energy into starting your business and growing your business, but what will happen when you are ready to move on? Do you have a plan in place? SCORE’s Exit Strategy Canvas provides an effective tool for engaging the critical thinking process that helps develop the strategy for succession planning. It will trigger valuable insights into the timing of the transition as well as maximization of the opportunity. Presented by Dr. Ken Baylor, certified SCORE mentor and Harvard instructor.
