Tobin Bridge Rehabilitation
Project Monthly Look-Ahead
Throughout the month beginning
August 10, 2018, J.
F. White, MassDOT’s contractor
for the Tobin Bridge
Rehabilitation Project, will continue
construction operations.
Most work site-wide will be
performed during the standard
working hours of 6 a.m. to 2
p.m. with some work taking
place between 7 a.m. to 5:30
p.m., 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Work will
also take place on Saturdays.
During this month, currently
anticipated to begin on August
27, the Beacon Street Ramp
will be closed for two months.
A separate release on this closure
will be forthcoming with
detour routes and further information.
In advance of the closure,
crews will set up signage
including Portable Changeable
Message Systems throughout
the workzone to alert and guide
traffic. Once the ramp is closed,
the deck will be milled, currently
expected Monday, August
27 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The
Beacon Street ramp deck will
be demolished from 7 a.m. to
5:30 p.m. Monday, August 27
through Friday, September 7,
except for the weekend.
On Route 1 Northbound, crews
will blast the right shoulder and
beneath the center of the lower
deck from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Monday, August 13 through
Saturday, August 25, with the
exception of Wednesday, August
15 and Sunday, August 19. They
will also demolish the left lane
of the safety walk from 6 a.m.
to 2 p.m. throughout the week
of August 20. The safety walk
will receive an intermediate and
top coat of paint between 7 a.m.
and 5:30 p.m., Monday, August
13 through Friday, September 7,
with the exception of Sundays
and Wednesday, August 15.
Crews will remove and install
the gutter angle on the lower
deck from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.,
Monday, August 13 through
Friday, August 24, with the exception
of the weekend. Crews
will install a ladder to access
from the lower deck to the temporary
work platform at Pier M4
from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday,
August 13, through Friday,
August 17. Pier M4 is adjacent
to the Chelsea Yacht Club. On
the lower deck from 2nd Street
to Everett Avenue, crews will
remove containment and clean
up from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.,
throughout the month covered
by this look ahead with the exception
of Wednesday, August
15, and Sundays.
On Route 1 Southbound,
crews will install upper deck
temporary platforms from 7 a.m.

Crews will install temporary
platforms below the Everett
Avenue On-Ramp Safetywalk
from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.,

Steel inspection of the Everett
Avenue On-Ramp and the upper
deck will take place between
6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday,
August 22 and Wednesday,
August 29.
The temporary fence on the
concrete barrier will be relocated
back to the Safetywalk location
Monday, August 13 through
Friday, August 17 between the
hours of 5:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Daily off-peak lane closures,
between the hours of 6 a.m.
and 2:30 p.m. will supplement
the extended shoulder area for
safety during impactful operations.
Lane closures are necessary
to create a safe work zone;
drivers are asked to be aware
of possible lane closures for
their own safety and that of the
project team. Please also note
that all work is contingent upon
the weather. No work will occur
on the weekends unless explicitly
noted above.

Stuart G. Merle, DMD
LYNNFIELD — Stuart G. Merle, DMD of
Lynnfield, on Friday, August 17, 2018.
For 47 years, he was the beloved husband
of Gale Ann (Wolman) Merle. Loving
father of Jeremy & Jessica Merle of
Newton and Andrew & Martha Merle of
Wellesley. Adored grandfather of Taylor,
Bennett and Violet. Cherished son of Vivian
(Ohringer) Merle of FL and the late
Sydney Merle. Dear brother of Gordon &
Joanne Merle of FL.
Stuart moved to Boston to attend Tufts
Dental School, and then back to New
York for his pediatric dental residency.
He then returned to the Boston area to establish
his two pediatric dental practices in W. Peabody and
Lynn. Through the years, he followed the activities of
his patients, enjoying semi-annual updates on their
lives, well into adulthood. He established a close relationship
with many. His devotion to children’s dentistry
took him to Israel where he worked in the Dental
Volunteers for Israel clinic for several years, treating
children from the Jerusalem area and connecting with
Israeli culture.
Early on in his career, Stuart invested in extensive
photography equipment for his dental practice. That
developed his love of photography that escalated
through the years. His camera bag was with him at
all times and his photos in his home and those of
others continue to display his keen eye for detail.
His photos were chosen to appear in several travel
publications.
Stuart had wanderlust that took him to many
countries and cultures, always recording his adventures
through his lens. Some of his favorite adventures
were in Israel, India, Russia,
Southeast Asia, South America, Morocco,
Europe, Croatia, Canada and the
west coast of the United States.
Stuart remained active throughout his
life, looking forward to his weekly tennis
games for male bonding and exercise.
He was also a runner, continuing that
sport until recently, regardless of where
he was in the world. He loved the Red
Sox, switching allegiance from that New
York team when he moved to Boston.
Stuart’s greatest loves were his two
sons. His pride in them was unequaled.
He shared the love and pride when they married
Jessica (Jeremy) and Martha (Andrew). His greatest
smiles came when he was with his three grandchildren.
They brought incomparable joy and three new
photographic subjects into his life. The literary world
is enhanced by the book he wrote for Taylor, entitled,
Taylor’s Weekly Adventures with Washie, available
soon on Amazon.
Stuart will be remembered for his genuine smile,
his practical jokes, finding humor in much of life,
and his outgoing and gregarious personality.
Service information: Services will be held at
the Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St., Brookline
on Monday, August 20 at 10:30am. Burial
in the Or Emet Cemetery, 776 Baker St., West
Roxbury. Memorial observance following the
burial through 9pm and continuing Tuesday and
Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at his
late residence. In lieu of flowers, remembrances
may be made to Dental Volunteers for Israel
