Northeast Region
Northeast Region Adds Three New Board Members
AFHU’s Northeast Region is pleased to announce
the recent addition of three board members who will
help to lead our development and outreach efforts:
Neil D. Grossman, Andrew L. Shapiro, and Catherine
D. Wood.
Recently relocated to New York, Neil D. Grossman,
a past member of our Northeast Board and
the AFHU Board of Regents, has over 30 years of
experience in finance, law, physics, mathematics, and
economics. Mr. Grossman most recently co-founded
TKNG Capital Partners, LLC, where he served as
the CIO of the firm’s global macro fund. His career
accomplishments include executive positions with
JP Morgan, the Central Bank of Norway and Polaris
Asset Management.
Mr. Grossman earned his J.D. from the Columbia
University School of Law and a B.S. and M.S. in
fluid dynamics from the Columbia University School
of Engineering and Applied Science. Mr. Grossman
also attended the University of Cambridge where
he did post-graduate studies in the Department of
Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. Neil’s
wife, Mindy, is President and CEO of Weight Watchers
International.
Andrew L. Shapiro (HU alumnus ‘88) has spent
the past two decades working at the nexus of new
technologies and societal transformation, with a focus
on energy and environmental innovation. Founder
of Broadscale Group, Mr. Shapiro works with leading
energy corporations to commercialize the most
promising market-ready innovations. Mr. Shapiro
has invested in, advised, and served on the boards
of more than 20 start-ups, and recently co-founded
Resourcient, an initiative to promote scalable investment
in resource-efficient businesses.

Mr. Shapiro has been a visiting faculty member
at Columbia and Yale and a fellow at Harvard; he is the
author of two books and dozens of articles. A regular
speaker at conferences, he has been described by
Fortune as “green business’ go-to guy” and profiled
by The New York Times as “A Dollars-and-Cents Man
with a Green Philosophy.” Mr. Shapiro is a graduate
of Brown University and Yale Law School. In May
2017, Mr. Shapiro was a speaker at NEXUS:ISRAEL,
an innovation conference presented by AFHU. He
recently co-chaired a “Nexus Talks” event in New
York featuring Israeli tech start-ups and served as
co-chair of the 2018 President’s International Business
Leadership Forum, a unique three-day program
designed to engage and connect global business
leaders with Israeli innovation and ingenuity at the
Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Catherine (Cathie) D. Wood is the CEO and Chief
Investment Officer of ARK Invest, which she founded
in 2014. Before ARK, Ms. Wood spent 12 years at AllianceBernstein
as Chief Investment Officer of Global
Thematic Strategies, where she managed a $5 billion
portfolio. Ms. Wood joined the company from Tupelo
Capital Management, a hedge fund she co-founded
that managed $800 million in global thematic strategies.
Prior to Tupelo, Ms. Wood worked for 18 years
with Jennison Associates as Chief Economist, Equity
Research Analyst, Portfolio Manager and Director.
Ms. Wood started her career in Los Angeles at
the Capital Group as an Assistant Economist and
received her Bachelor of Science in finance and
economics from the University of Southern California.
In 2016, Ms. Wood received the Women
in Finance Outstanding Contribution Award from
Markets Media. In May 2017, Cathie was a speaker at
NEXUS:ISRAEL, and recently served as co-chair for
the 2018 President’s International Business Leadership
Forum in Jerusalem.
