Northeast Region<br />

Northeast Region Adds Three New Board Members<br />

<strong>AFHU</strong>’s Northeast Region is pleased to announce<br />

the recent addition of three board members who will<br />

help to lead our development and outreach efforts:<br />

Neil D. Grossman, Andrew L. Shapiro, and Catherine<br />

D. Wood.<br />

Recently relocated to New York, Neil D. Grossman,<br />

a past member of our Northeast Board and<br />

the <strong>AFHU</strong> Board of Regents, has over 30 years of<br />

experience in finance, law, physics, mathematics, and<br />

economics. Mr. Grossman most recently co-founded<br />

TKNG Capital Partners, LLC, where he served as<br />

the CIO of the firm’s global macro fund. His career<br />

accomplishments include executive positions with<br />

JP Morgan, the Central Bank of Norway and Polaris<br />

Asset Management.<br />

Mr. Grossman earned his J.D. from the Columbia<br />

University School of Law and a B.S. and M.S. in<br />

fluid dynamics from the Columbia University School<br />

of Engineering and Applied Science. Mr. Grossman<br />

also attended the University of Cambridge where<br />

he did post-graduate studies in the Department of<br />

Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. Neil’s<br />

wife, Mindy, is President and CEO of Weight Watchers<br />

International.<br />

Andrew L. Shapiro (HU alumnus ‘88) has spent<br />

the past two decades working at the nexus of new<br />

technologies and societal transformation, with a focus<br />

on energy and environmental innovation. Founder<br />

of Broadscale Group, Mr. Shapiro works with leading<br />

energy corporations to commercialize the most<br />

promising market-ready innovations. Mr. Shapiro<br />

has invested in, advised, and served on the boards<br />

of more than 20 start-ups, and recently co-founded<br />

Resourcient, an initiative to promote scalable investment<br />

in resource-efficient businesses.<br />

Neil and Mindy Grossman<br />

Andrew L. Shapiro<br />

Mr. Shapiro has been a visiting faculty member<br />

at Columbia and Yale and a fellow at Harvard; he is the<br />

author of two books and dozens of articles. A regular<br />

speaker at conferences, he has been described by<br />

Fortune as “green business’ go-to guy” and profiled<br />

by The New York Times as “A Dollars-and-Cents Man<br />

with a Green Philosophy.” Mr. Shapiro is a graduate<br />

of Brown University and Yale Law School. In May<br />

2017, Mr. Shapiro was a speaker at NEXUS:ISRAEL,<br />

an innovation conference presented by <strong>AFHU</strong>. He<br />

recently co-chaired a “Nexus Talks” event in New<br />

York featuring Israeli tech start-ups and served as<br />

co-chair of the 2018 President’s International Business<br />

Leadership Forum, a unique three-day program<br />

designed to engage and connect global business<br />

leaders with Israeli innovation and ingenuity at the<br />

Hebrew University of Jerusalem.<br />

Catherine (Cathie) D. Wood is the CEO and Chief<br />

Investment Officer of ARK Invest, which she founded<br />

in 2014. Before ARK, Ms. Wood spent 12 years at AllianceBernstein<br />

as Chief Investment Officer of Global<br />

Thematic Strategies, where she managed a $5 billion<br />

portfolio. Ms. Wood joined the company from Tupelo<br />

Capital Management, a hedge fund she co-founded<br />

that managed $800 million in global thematic strategies.<br />

Prior to Tupelo, Ms. Wood worked for 18 years<br />

with Jennison Associates as Chief Economist, Equity<br />

Research Analyst, Portfolio Manager and Director.<br />

Ms. Wood started her career in Los Angeles at<br />

the Capital Group as an Assistant Economist and<br />

received her Bachelor of Science in finance and<br />

economics from the University of Southern California.<br />

In 2016, Ms. Wood received the Women<br />

in Finance Outstanding Contribution Award from<br />

Markets Media. In May 2017, Cathie was a speaker at<br />

NEXUS:ISRAEL, and recently served as co-chair for<br />

the 2018 President’s International Business Leadership<br />

Forum in Jerusalem.<br />
