Einstein Visionaries Luncheon<br />

<strong>AFHU</strong> held an Einstein Visionaries Society<br />

Luncheon on Wednesday, July 18th at Napa Valley<br />

Grille in Westwood, CA. The lunch, graciously hosted<br />

by regional board member Steve Good and his wife<br />

Bari, honored planned giving donors across the Western<br />

Region. Thirty-five <strong>AFHU</strong> regional board members,<br />

planned giving donors, and supporters were in attendance<br />

to hear from Dr. Aron Troen, Director of HU’s<br />

Nutrition and Brain Health Laboratory<br />

Western Region Chairman of the Board, Richard<br />

Ziman, described the importance of a philanthropic<br />

legacy, sharing his personal motivation for providing<br />

for the future strength of the university. Western<br />

Region Vice Chair, Patricia Glaser expressed her<br />

passion for the prestigious accomplishments of the<br />

Hebrew University and acknowledged planned giving<br />

donors with a framed certificate of recognition on<br />

behalf of <strong>AFHU</strong>.<br />

Celebrating 50 Years of Israel Study Abroad with<br />

University of California Education Abroad Program<br />

More than 80 alumni and friends celebrated the<br />

50-year partnership between University of California<br />

Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) and the Hebrew<br />

University of Jerusalem on June 2, 2018 at the UCLA<br />

Hillel.<br />

Hebrew University’s Rothberg International<br />

School’s Vice Provost, Jonathan Kaplan, discussed the<br />

evolution of study abroad at Hebrew University and highlighted<br />

the university’s strengthened focus on internationalization.<br />

Western Region <strong>AFHU</strong> Alumni Committee<br />

co-chairs Marc Rosenbach ’83-84 and Mindy Rothstein<br />

Mann ’75-76 spoke about their life-changing experiences<br />

at Hebrew University. Mindy noted “I can say without<br />

a doubt, the year I spent at Hebrew University was<br />

the best year of my life,” a sentiment that resonated<br />

throughout the room.<br />

annual Bel Air Affaire honoring Hella and Chuck Hershson.<br />

Mission to Israel<br />

The 10th<br />

PRESENTS<br />

Annual<br />

On October 10th, the Western Region will begin<br />

a 10-day Mission to Amsterdam and Israel. Throughout<br />

the journey, participants will enjoy intimate<br />

programming with prominent diplomats, politicians,<br />

journalists, and academic scholars. The trip begins<br />

with a three-day visit to Amsterdam, accompanied<br />

by Ambassador Yossi Gal, Hebrew University’s Vice<br />

President for Advancement and External Relations,<br />

and Israel’s former Ambassador to the Netherlands<br />

(1995-2001). The group will tour historic landmarks,<br />

such as the 17th-century Portuguese Synagogue and<br />

the Anne Frank House. In Israel, the delegation will<br />

explore vibrant Tel Aviv, ancient sites in Jerusalem,<br />

and take a helicopter ride over the scenic landscape<br />

of the Jordan Valley and Sea of Galilee. Participants<br />

will visit Hebrew University campuses and hear<br />

presentations by esteemed professors in fields ranging<br />

from archaeology and urban planning to physics<br />

and nanoscience.
