Einstein Visionaries Luncheon
AFHU held an Einstein Visionaries Society
Luncheon on Wednesday, July 18th at Napa Valley
Grille in Westwood, CA. The lunch, graciously hosted
by regional board member Steve Good and his wife
Bari, honored planned giving donors across the Western
Region. Thirty-five AFHU regional board members,
planned giving donors, and supporters were in attendance
to hear from Dr. Aron Troen, Director of HU’s
Nutrition and Brain Health Laboratory
Western Region Chairman of the Board, Richard
Ziman, described the importance of a philanthropic
legacy, sharing his personal motivation for providing
for the future strength of the university. Western
Region Vice Chair, Patricia Glaser expressed her
passion for the prestigious accomplishments of the
Hebrew University and acknowledged planned giving
donors with a framed certificate of recognition on
behalf of AFHU.

Celebrating 50 Years of Israel Study Abroad with
University of California Education Abroad Program
More than 80 alumni and friends celebrated the
50-year partnership between University of California
Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) and the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem on June 2, 2018 at the UCLA
Hillel.
Hebrew University’s Rothberg International
School’s Vice Provost, Jonathan Kaplan, discussed the
evolution of study abroad at Hebrew University and highlighted
the university’s strengthened focus on internationalization.

Mann ’75-76 spoke about their life-changing experiences
at Hebrew University. Mindy noted “I can say without
a doubt, the year I spent at Hebrew University was

Mission to Israel
The 10th
PRESENTS
Annual
On October 10th, the Western Region will begin
a 10-day Mission to Amsterdam and Israel. Throughout
the journey, participants will enjoy intimate
programming with prominent diplomats, politicians,
journalists, and academic scholars. The trip begins
with a three-day visit to Amsterdam, accompanied
by Ambassador Yossi Gal, Hebrew University’s Vice
President for Advancement and External Relations,
and Israel’s former Ambassador to the Netherlands
(1995-2001). The group will tour historic landmarks,
such as the 17th-century Portuguese Synagogue and
the Anne Frank House. In Israel, the delegation will
explore vibrant Tel Aviv, ancient sites in Jerusalem,
and take a helicopter ride over the scenic landscape
of the Jordan Valley and Sea of Galilee. Participants
will visit Hebrew University campuses and hear
presentations by esteemed professors in fields ranging
from archaeology and urban planning to physics
and nanoscience.
