<strong>AFHU</strong>’s Philadelphia chapter was pleased to<br />
introduce Dr. Benny Porat, Director of the Matz<br />
Institute for Research in Jewish Law at the Hebrew<br />
University of Jerusalem, to members of the community<br />
from February 9-11. The weekend of events<br />
concluded with a study session at Lower Merion<br />
Synagogue (LMS).<br />
On April 11, 2018, Dr. Aron Troen, Director of<br />
the Hebrew University’s Nutrition and Brain Health<br />
Laboratory, presented “Food for Thought: Can What<br />
We Eat Prevent Alzheimer’s?” to two distinct audiences<br />
in Philadelphia. In the evening, guests enjoyed<br />
wine and cheese before his presentation at a reception<br />
hosted by E. Harris Baum, co-founding partner<br />
of Zarwin Baum DeVito Kaplan Schaer Toddy, P.C.<br />
Earlier in the day, Dr. Troen spoke before guests at<br />
the Watermark at Logan Square Senior Living<br />

On Saturday, January 19, 2019, the Palm Beach<br />
Award Gala will pay tribute to civic leaders and<br />
philanthropists, Marjorie and Robert Emden. Dinner<br />

Stanley Bogen, Marjorie and Stephen Fiverson, Lori<br />
and Bruce Glendelman, Michelle and Joseph Jacobs,<br />
Judy and Robert Snyder, and Robbi and Bruce Toll.<br />

ALEF 2019<br />
Annual Leadership Education Forum<br />
On Sunday, January 20, 2019, <strong>AFHU</strong>’s Southeast<br />
Region will host a day-long conference in Palm<br />
Beach. The Annual Leadership Education Forum<br />
(ALEF) brings researchers and innovators from the<br />
Hebrew University of Jerusalem to South Florida to<br />
discuss their work in fields ranging from health, agriculture,<br />
and nanotechnology, to environmental life<br />
sciences, and the humanities.<br />
