John S. Siffert Receives the George A. Katz Torch
of Learning Award
Mid-Atlantic Region
Einstein Award Gala and Scopus Award
This June, AFHU’s Northeast Region honored John
S. Siffert, a prominent member of the legal community
and a scholar, teacher, and mentor to younger
generations of lawyers. A founding partner of Lankler,
Siffert & Wohl LLP, Mr. Siffert received the George A.
Katz Torch of Learning Award in tribute to his professional
achievements, humanitarianism, and community
service. The immediate past president of AFHU’s
Northeast Regional board, Mr. Siffert actively works in
support of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Bret Stephens, Op-Ed columnist with The New
York Times, provided keynote remarks at the June 18th
event, which raised funds on behalf of Hebrew University’s
Faculty of Law. Special guest speakers from the
university included Ambassador Yossi Gal, Vice President
of Advancement and External Relations, and
Professor Tomer Broude of the Faculty of Law.

Einstein Visionaries Society
An Exclusive Invitation: September 13th Luncheon
On May 6, 2018, AFHU’s Mid-Atlantic
Region conferred the Hebrew University
of Jerusalem’s Einstein Award upon
the acclaimed author, Walter Isaacson,
Professor of History at Tulane University,
former CEO of the Aspen Institute, and
authority on the life and times of Albert
Einstein. At the dinner, Wes and Natalie
Bush received AFHU’s highest honor,
the Scopus Award, in recognition of their
humanitarianism, professional achievements,
and civic leadership.
The Einstein Gala was co-chaired
by Paula and James Crown and Michelle
Smith, and the Scopus Dinner by Bobbie
and Bill Kilberg. Event proceeds will benefit
student scholarships at the Hebrew
University and advance AFHU’s mission in
support of the university.

The Einstein Visionaries Society annual tribute
luncheon honored supporters in the Northeast
Region who have included AFHU in their estate planning.
The event, featured HU Student Ambassador
Lee Shmulevitz, was held on Thursday, September
13th at 12 Noon in New York City.
Ms. Shmulevitz is currently pursuing a Bachelor
of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the
Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is a Lieutenant
in reserve in the IDF’s Iron Dome unit. She served
in two Gaza operations, Protective Edge and Pillar
of Defense.
