John S. Siffert Receives the George A. Katz Torch<br />
of Learning Award<br />
Mid-Atlantic Region<br />
Einstein Award Gala and Scopus Award<br />
This June, <strong>AFHU</strong>’s Northeast Region honored John<br />
S. Siffert, a prominent member of the legal community<br />
and a scholar, teacher, and mentor to younger<br />
generations of lawyers. A founding partner of Lankler,<br />
Siffert & Wohl LLP, Mr. Siffert received the George A.<br />
Katz Torch of Learning Award in tribute to his professional<br />
achievements, humanitarianism, and community<br />
service. The immediate past president of <strong>AFHU</strong>’s<br />
Northeast Regional board, Mr. Siffert actively works in<br />
support of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.<br />
Bret Stephens, Op-Ed columnist with The New<br />
York Times, provided keynote remarks at the June 18th<br />
event, which raised funds on behalf of Hebrew University’s<br />
Faculty of Law. Special guest speakers from the<br />
university included Ambassador Yossi Gal, Vice President<br />
of Advancement and External Relations, and<br />
Professor Tomer Broude of the Faculty of Law.<br />

Einstein Visionaries Society<br />
An Exclusive Invitation: September 13th Luncheon<br />
On May 6, 2018, <strong>AFHU</strong>’s Mid-Atlantic<br />
Region conferred the Hebrew University<br />
of Jerusalem’s Einstein Award upon<br />
the acclaimed author, Walter Isaacson,<br />
Professor of History at Tulane University,<br />
former CEO of the Aspen Institute, and<br />
authority on the life and times of Albert<br />
Einstein. At the dinner, Wes and Natalie<br />
Bush received <strong>AFHU</strong>’s highest honor,<br />
the Scopus Award, in recognition of their<br />
humanitarianism, professional achievements,<br />
and civic leadership.<br />
The Einstein Gala was co-chaired<br />
by Paula and James Crown and Michelle<br />
Smith, and the Scopus Dinner by Bobbie<br />
and Bill Kilberg. Event proceeds will benefit<br />
student scholarships at the Hebrew<br />
University and advance <strong>AFHU</strong>’s mission in<br />
support of the university.<br />

The Einstein Visionaries Society annual tribute<br />
luncheon honored supporters in the Northeast<br />
Region who have included <strong>AFHU</strong> in their estate planning.<br />
The event, featured HU Student Ambassador<br />
Lee Shmulevitz, was held on Thursday, September<br />
13th at 12 Noon in New York City.<br />
Ms. Shmulevitz is currently pursuing a Bachelor<br />
of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the<br />
Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is a Lieutenant<br />
in reserve in the IDF’s Iron Dome unit. She served<br />
in two Gaza operations, Protective Edge and Pillar<br />
of Defense.<br />
