Like rotating electrics,
batteries have traditionally
been recycled, and Ecobat’s
‘closed-loop’ waste management
policy updates the
more traditional ways of
handling used batteries,
meaning 99 percent of each
battery collected is recycled.
Because the Ecobat Group
contains specialists that can
recycle a battery, processed
elements are supplied to
other industries, from the
sulphuric acid and lead
through to the battery case.
“EBT believes it provides
a scrap battery-recycling
scheme that is the benchmark
for the industry and
can even help its customers
deal with the time-consuming
and confusing adminis-
tration process by completing
the Environment Agency
scrap registration form and
ensuring that it is then updated
annually. It therefore
provides a complete service
that not only takes the worry
out of battery waste, but
can also turn that waste into
extra profits, which can be
ploughed back into the business,”
the company says.
Company HQ gives cups a new life
Hella’s Oxfordshirebased
distribution centre
is taking its recycling initiatives
further by aiming
for a landfill-free target
following one staff member noticing
how vending machine cups
were creating unnecessary waste.
Gabor Kalek alerted Hella UK
managing director Matthew Say to
the cup situaion and operations
manager Jason Greenough created
a plan involving recycling bins and
waste collection.
“When it was brought to my
attention that we were still producing
avoidable waste, it was something
we had to put right. The
company takes pride in valuing
everybody’s ideas and opinions in
how best to take Hella forward,
regardless of their role, and this
was an excellent example,” says
Matthew Say.
“We strive to make our products
with consideration to the environment
and our headquarters
should also follow this remit. We
are therefore delighted we are contributing
to make a greener and
more sustainable future by recycling
materials and avoiding landfill
sites all together. Through this
new approach, we hope to encourage
others to help the environment
in as many ways as possible.”
