THE NDIS CONTINUES ITS
RAPID EXPANSION IN PERTH
NIGEL CAREY MANAGER, MSWA NDIS BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
On July 1, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
expanded to include the new geographical areas of Fremantle,
the City of Melville and the City of South Perth.
In anticipation, the NDIS team hosted a series of information
sessions to explain how our Members can get started with
the NDIS and what supports and services are available.
Attendance has been strong, and we are now actively
engaging with over 70 Members from these areas, as they
start their NDIS journey.
In fact, NDIS eligibility for some of these Members has
already been approved and they are now waiting for their first
planning sessions with the NDIS.
The NDIS team is still very keen to meet and support you
if you live in Fremantle, the City of Melville and the City of
South Perth and we haven’t yet spoken with you. We would
be happy to have an individual discussion with you in your
home, have coffee with you in a neighbourhood café, or one
of our facilities. The coffee and cake are on us!
The next NDIS areas to be launched will be the City of
Joondalup, City of Wanneroo and City of Bunbury and
surrounding shires. These will commence from October 1.
It should be noted that the City of Joondalup and City of
Wanneroo cover an extremely wide geographical area, so you
may well be included if you live in the northern suburbs!
We have over 500 Members on our database for these areas
and once again we will be actively contacting you to assist
in understanding the process and your possible transition to
the NDIS.
On another topic, we have been contacted by many Members
who are transferring from WA NDIS plans to Commonwealth
NDIS plans.
The transfer process is proving to be quite challenging, so
we do encourage you to contact us when you are asked to
transfer your plan. We can assist by checking your existing
plan and planning for a new one, as the processes are slightly
different between the two.
The future schedule for transfers is as follows:
August – October 2018: Members who live in the Cockburn /
Kwinana areas will be asked to transfer to the NDIS.
September – December 2018: Members who live in the
Lower South West, Busselton and surrounds, will be asked to
transfer to the NDIS
