2018 Alabama State Nurses Association Annual Convention DISTRICT 1 Donna Everett, RN, BS, MSN President Officers: President: Donna Everett, MSN, RN Meetings: 2nd Thursday President-Elect: Jeanette Atkinson, MSN, RN Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Dec Vice President: Frederick Richardson, BSN, RN 6:00pm; Dowdle Ctr Secretary: Bonnie Rausch, BSN, RN Huntsville Hospital Treasurer: Brian Buchmann, MSN, RN, MBA Accomplishments Fall 2017 • Sixteen delegates and three Board of Directors officers attended the annual convention! • District One President spoke to 200+ University of Alabama, Huntsville (UAH) nursing students regarding the professional benefits of ASNA membership. • Participated in a recruitment fair at Calhoun Community College and University of Alabama, Huntsville Colleges’ of Nursing. Representatives staffed a table with printed handouts on the benefits of joining ASNA for soon to be nursing graduates. • UAH senior nursing student, Frederick Richardson, recorded a video of president and vice president welcoming new graduates to join ASNA. This video was placed on the senior nursing student’s private Facebook page. • The festive December district meeting was held at local restaurant with ASNA members and recent nursing graduates attending. • Actively participated in the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. District One representative Veronica Leftridge RN, MSN agreed to co-chair this committee and strive to meet the declarations noted in the 2017 ASNA Diversity and Inclusion Resolution. Winter 2018 • All nursing school deans in District One were contacted and encouraged to make plans to send as many students as possible to the upcoming Nurses Day at the Capitol event in Montgomery. • Vice President Jeanette Atkinson met with the liaison for the UAH Student Nurses Association. • President Rebecca Huie, President-Elect Sarah Wilkinson, former state president Brian Buchmann and district president attended a live announcement by Governor Kay Ivey held at Huntsville Hospital on the new simulation lab to be constructed at Calhoun Community College. Spring 2018 • Voted to sponsor full registration for a candidate to attend the Leadership Academy. Huntsville Hospital donated $1000 for two additional nurses to attend. • Members were emailed and encouraged to peruse legislative reports from the Executive Director and resources posted on the ASNA web site to contact their representative regarding nursing issues. • Convention Planning Committee members continue to work on agenda and support for proposed events. • District One was represented at the Elizabeth Morris FACES event. • Facebook and web pages continue to be developed. 49
