Joseph Alexander was sworn in as Cotton Valley’s mayor with a small service and ceremony at Mt. Sariah Baptist Church. The Cotton Valley Community Choir as well as solo singers performed during the ceremony. Pastors, officials and community members attended the service. Deputy Clerk Felicia Jackson conducted the swearing-in. It should have been a done deal. But envy, jealousy, hatred and racism have motivated the hearts of some of the citizens to “Get him out of there”. There’s a law in the land called The Law of Reciprocity. This law simply means you will reap what you have sown. If you sow hate, envy, and deceit toward others, the same will come back to you. Some of you have gone out of your way to tear down Mayor
Joseph’s name. If you would really think about it, Joseph has not given you a reason to treat him the way you do. There has been a lot of spiritual warfare around this election. Each individual would have to do their own self-examination: if you would be honest with yourself, you know your actions against Mayor Alexander have been very vindictive. Those of you who thought Mayor Alexander was not going to win the election, you were wrong. Accept the facts and let’s support him. Now there are those who cannot accept a black man as Mayor. These are those who decided to tell outright lies to get Mayor Alexander to be removed by passing around a petition.
