Malaysian Red Crescent Society<br />

launches country’s first ever<br />

First Aid App in partnership with<br />

Prudence Foundation<br />

3 Aug: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (“MRCS”),<br />

with support from the International Federation of Red Cross<br />

and Red Crescent Societies (“IFRC”), launched the country’s<br />

first ever First Aid mobile application. The MRCS First Aid<br />

app contains information on everyday first aid scenarios,<br />

with tips on how to respond to emergencies ranging from<br />

burns and broken bones to asthma attacks. The application,<br />

which will be available for free on the Play Store and App<br />

Store, hopes to reach the estimated 17 million smartphone<br />

users in the country.<br />

VISTA launches new Air Itam<br />

eye centre<br />

15 July: VISTA Eye Specialist (VISTA) launched a<br />

new VISTA eye specialist clinic at Air Itam; providing<br />

comprehensive eye screening and vision correction<br />

solutions to help bring even more people's vision 'from<br />

blur to clear'. The opening follows the recent launch of<br />

its umbrella Corporate Social Responsibility campaign,<br />

“VISTA See Malaysia from Blur to Clear”, which aims<br />

to help more Malaysians attain visual freedom and<br />

enhance public awareness of preventable blindness<br />

caused by cataract. The multi-pronged campaign will<br />

see VISTA fulfilling its pledge to give away free 100<br />

eyes of cataract procedures to 50 patients in need, as<br />

well as kicking off the VISTA Youth Challenge and VISTA<br />

Eye Carnivals with eye screenings to the public.<br />

revealed that despite<br />

widespread concern,<br />

understanding of<br />

the risks, symptoms<br />

and management of<br />

dengue is severely lacking – just over half of individuals<br />

surveyed described themselves as knowledgeable in<br />

recognising the symptoms, and only 33% are aware<br />

that there is no cure.<br />
