fashion With copious amounts of wedding cake to sample, and a seating plan to alter several thousand times, I’m convinced that an effective and realistic exercise regime simply doesn’t exist. However, Ferrymead-based personal trainer and bride-to-be, Meg Bolderston has set out to prove me wrong. I’ve been invited to join personal trainer Meg Bolderston for three 20-minute workouts over the course of a week. Whilst I’ve got a busy schedule, there’s no getting out of this one, because let’s face it, we can all spare just 60 minutes over the span of seven days. Meg understands that future brides simply aren’t able to dedicate time to lengthy workouts every day, so recommends three snappy ones a week, and she promises results. The night before my first session with Meg, the alarm is set for 6am and my hardly worn trainers are by the door. When I arrive at the gym, there is no equipment to be seen so I remain confident that this short workout should be a total breeze, which ultimately makes me doubt the aforementioned results. However, after completing a circuit comprised of compound movements, including squats and press-ups, I’m sweating, pumped and just about ready to adopt the foetal position. So, after just one workout with Meg, I’m eating my words. I already feel energised, motivated and certain of the physical and psychological benefits of this rapid regime. I’m left uncharacteristically excited for my next workout, which is a refreshed circuit of even more compound moves that work multiple joints and muscles. The third session left me feeling simultaneously exhausted and exhilarated once again. Once I had caught my breath, Meg explained that these 20-minute workouts were all about getting ‘bang for your buck’, meaning you can burn more calories and build more muscle in far less time than traditional regimes. Meg’s circuits are equipment free and require only your own body weight, so you can do them wherever and whenever. After just three sessions, I am converted. Committing to a few months of this regime in the lead-up to the big day would ensure you are looking and feeling absolutely incredible when it matters the most. 50 50 YEARS STRONG 1968 1968 — 2018 — 2018
