THE PROS:
Your guests can travel to your wedding easily.
Travelling to a destination wedding can often be
difficult for guests, especially those with young
families. So a wedding in your home town is a great
way to ensure most people are able to attend
with ease.
Your home town may have sentimental value…
Perhaps you and your partner both grew up in the same
home town or maybe you met there, either way, you
may have an emotional bond to your home town that
simply can’t be rivalled at any other location.
Guests don’t have to pay for often pricey
accommodation… Hotel rooms, especially those
at wedding venues, can be a huge expense for your
wedding guests but by getting married in your home
town, a majority of guests will be able to taxi home at
the end of the evening, saving them money and saving
you additional planning that may come with organising
a wedding that requires accommodation for many of
your guests.
Sourcing local suppliers means you can check in
on them during the run-up to the wedding with
total ease… Not only will you be able to visit the
dressmaker, caterer, venue, celebrant and florist easily,
you may also make some of your choices based upon
recommendations from locals who have used certain
suppliers in the past. Getting that fragile wedding cake
to your venue will be a total breeze!
Older guests that would be unable to travel afar for
your wedding will more likely be able to attend…
You’ll want your nearest and dearest around you,
and that includes grandparents who might otherwise
struggle with the travelling that’s associated with
weddings far from home. Reduced travel times may
also mean guests will not have to book time off work,
again, making their attendance that much easier.
Friends and family will be able to lend a hand…
During the lead-up and even after your wedding, friends
and family will be able to help with transporting items,
attending rehearsals and even offering to let travelling
guests use their spare rooms, if necessary.
THE CONS:
Guests will likely expect you to arrange
transportation options to and from the wedding…
Given that a large number of them will live in the same
town, they may expect a shuttle service to be provided
to get them to and from the various locations of your
wedding. This is an additional cost you may not have
allowed for in your wedding budget.
You might miss out on some of the excitement
that comes with getting married in a less familiar
setting… Planning a wedding in your home town may
just feel a little too at home. You may find the old village
hall doesn’t excite you as much as a venue further afield
could. If you and your partner are keen adventurers,
then having a wedding in your home town might not
give you that special feeling.
Your wedding may seem familiar to those of friends
and family that have previously wed there…
If friends and family have also tied the knot in your
home town, you may find yourself dealing with similar
suppliers that deliver recognisable services. Where
small towns are concerned you’ll almost definitely be
using a venue that many close connections have used
before you.
You may be limited by the supplier and venue
options that are in close proximity… Wedding
suppliers may be limited to just a few options, and you
may not be totally blown away by what they have to
offer for your big day. Sourcing them from further afield
is, of course, an option but this means a plan must be in
place to enable all suppliers can deliver to your home
town venue.
