SPACE+
DESIGN: REINAART VANDERSLOTEN
The Space+ draws its inspiration from
the Japanese small living culture and
the art of origami. The starting point
was the question of how an object
can encourage the user to be creative
with their living space; ultimately a new
type of decorative object/piece of furniture
has been born.
In its folded up position, the Space+
hangs on the wall like an artistic sculpture.
The brass reflects the light and
the surroundings. If you are fortunate,
it will also reflect the (green) view from
outside. Thus you create space that
isn’t there. Every time you look into it,
you get a different picture. The changing
(day)light and the sculptural form
create a dynamism in the space.
In its folded open position, the Space+
is transformed into a screened workspace.
The felt screen serves as a notice
board for photos, post-it notes and
ideas. At the same time, it screens off
the living area from the sleeping area,
both visually and acoustically. This
enables you to manipulate the space.
When you fold up the Space+ again,
the table can go back to standing in
the middle of the room. The interior is
continually in motion.
