Georgia O’Connor-Harding reports VANESSA-AMY Greenwood has been named the overall winner of Selwyn’s wearable arts show. She received the ‘supreme winner’ award for her design Pteraon at the recent Art Couture NZ competition. Her design, made from inner tube rubber and paint, also won the Here We Go Again recycled section. Mrs Greenwood was “shocked” and “surprised” to win the award, she said. She works at the Rakaia Island dairy farm planting and maintaining native plants, and said she is a big fan of recycling. Her design was inspired by pāua shells and mythology. More than 500 people attended the competition at the Lincoln SURPRISE: Vanessa-Amy Greenwood was named the supreme winner for her design Pteraon at the Art Couture NZ competition. Event Centre. About 60 designers from around the country travelled to Selwyn to showcase their wearable arts. Runner-up – Lincoln High School student Molly Barker for Nupela Gold Body. •Open section: Lisa Hansen, of Christchurch, for Stop the Blood Bath. •Hardware section: Tracey Hollands, of Rolleston, for Touchy Feely. •Here We Go Again Recycled section: Vanessa- Amy Greenwood, of Southbridge, for Pteraon. •Sow’s Ear section: Tracey Hollands, of Rolleston, for A Pocket Full of Posies. •Most Innovative: Nicky Loe, of Rakaia, for Accordian Eulogy. •First Time Entrant: Tracey Majurey, of Auckland, for Lantern Girl. •Judges Choice: Leanne Day, of Auckland, for The Meaning of Red. •Director’s Choice: Kerry Thompson, of Rolleston, for Tea 4 Two. •Supreme Winner: Vanessa-Amy Greenwood, of Southbridge, for Pteraon.
